Yankees Lose to Twins 11-4 as Brendan Beck Starts the Game in Place of Carlos Rodon
The Yankees hoped that emergency starting pitcher Brendan Beck would keep them in the game so they could prevail against the Twins. It did not start well for him, as he allowed the first three batters to reach base, and all three eventually scored. The Yanks have been sparked by the returns of Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon; they were counting on them in this game to continue to spark them. However, today they lost this game 11-4.
This was a special game. The Yankees wore America 250 special baseball hats. So did the Twins. There were special commemorative bases. In particular, the catchers deserve mention as they wore special equipment to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The Twins’ catcher, Alex Jackson, wore a chest protector with the Statue of Liberty on it. The numbers on both teams’ jerseys were red, white, and blue. Do you think these tributes were appropriate for the holiday?
Yankees and Twins Game Summary July 4

Byron Buxton doubled in the first inning, and Trevor Larnach scored. Then Kody Clemens hit a two-run home run, and the Twins lead 3-0. In the second inning, Luke Keaschcall and Alex Jackson both hit home runs. The Twins were leading 5-0. With the hot temperatures, it seemed that the ball was just flying out of the ballpark, just not for the Yankees.
In the fourth inning, Trevor Larnach hit a solo home run. It was 6-0 Twins. It was odd to see a left-handed hitter hit a home run off Tim Hill (that was the first batter he faced). In the sixth inning, Jasson Dominguez hit a solo home run. It was 6-1, Twins.
In the fifth inning, Max Schuemann hit a two-run home run. Ryan McMahon scored as well. The score was now 6-3, and the announcers said the Yanks were back in this game because the Twins have such a bad bullpen. We will see. Then, Cody Bellinger doubled, and Trent Grisham scored. That made the score 6-4.
However, the Yankees left the bases loaded in the sixth inning, and Josh Bell hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. The Twins led 7-4. In the eighth inning, Camilo Doval came in and made it much worse. Byron Buxton hit a sacrifice fly, and Like Keashall scored. Then Kody Clemens singled, and Austin Martin scored. Finally, Josh Bell hit his second home run of the game. This is a two-run shot with Kody Clemens scoring. The score was 11-4, Twins. That is how the game ended.
Brendan Beck, Good in Minors
Brendan Beck was the emergency starter for the Yankees. He has been very good in the minor leagues. Overall, he is 7-2 with a 3.07 earned run average. He even participated in a no-hitter after a stint in the bullpen for the Bombers. However, Major League Baseball is not the minors. Beck allowed the first three Minnesota batters to score (a walk, a double, and a home run) before settling down and getting the next three batters out. However, he gave up two more home runs in the second inning.
Predict the Future?
In last night’s game and in this one as well, the Yankees were sparked by the return of Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon from injury. With several key players on the injured list, their return could help spark the Yankees for the stretch run. Eventually, the team should get Max Fried, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Rodon, and, at some point, Clarke Schmidt. The team’s General Manager, Brian Cashman, and manager, Aaron Boone, will say that getting these players back is like acquiring them via trade. That could be, fans want these players back.
The Twins won this game 11-4 after they led 6-0. The player of this game was Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins. He missed the last four games, but played today and got a resounding double in the first inning. These two teams conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35.
What’s Next For the Yankees?
It was sad to see the Yankees fall behind 5-0 early and 6-0 overall. The loss seemed to quash all the team’s momentum after last night’s win. The early lead for the Twins on the very hot day seemed to give the bombers a chance to get back in the game, but they have several players mired in horrible batting slumps. There was no way they were going to score 12 runs. The Rays continue to win, so the team is falling further and further behind in the division. They need to shape up now.
