The New York Liberty Locks In Their Elite BIG 3 For Years To Come
According to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, the New York Liberty have reached agreements with Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones on multi-year contracts as the Liberty look to return to the WNBA Finals after a disappointing 2025 season. After winning the 2024 WNBA title, the Liberty fell to the Phoenix Mercury in the playoffs in 2025.
The Liberty dealt with injuries to Stewart and Jones throughout the season, and it was an up-and-down season overall as well, with the most attention going to the fact that they got rid of Sandy Brondello as coach, who is now the coach for the Toronto Tempo. But this is a good sign that all three of the stars wanted to stay together. Let’s break down the trio as a whole.
The Big 3’s Stats From Last Season
Starting with Stewie, she averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game last season. Stewie was the best player for the Liberty when she was on the floor, as she has been for all of the years she has been in New York. Meanwhile, Ionescu averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game on down shooting numbers for Ionescu’s standards, especially 29% from three-point range. In 2026, Ionescu is looking to rebound her efficiency numbers.
As for Jones had some good moments, averaging 13.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as the third option of the BIG 3 in New York. Jones also said she was committed to the Liberty, even though it wasn’t widely announced like Stewie’s and Ionescu’s earlier in the month. Now the fact that the team has found all of the Big 3 their money, it’s time for the quest for another title in New York.
UPDATE: Breanna Stewart reported on her podcast that her contract is a 3-year standard max contract where she’ll be getting 17% of the cap each year. Sabrina Ionescu’s Contract is the same as Stewie’s as well, according to Philippiou.
