A’ja Wilson Decides To Stay In Las Vegas After Re-Signing With Aces

Las Vegas Aces center A'Ja Wilson (22) celebrates during the 2025 WNBA Championship parade.

Three-time WNBA champion A’ja Wilson has opted to remain in “Sin City” after re-signing with the Las Vegas Aces, the team announced. While the Aces did not disclose the terms, the deal is reportedly for three years and $5 million, according to ESPN’s Andraya Carter and Shams Charania. It will mark the second super-max contract doled out by a team since the new CBA was approved, but the first of the multi-year variety.

“A’ja is truly one of one, who has led this franchise to where it is today,” Aces GM Nikki Fargas said of the league’s only four-time MVP. Wilson has been the de facto engine and the leader behind the Aces team, which has amassed three championships in the last four years, including a title last season. She has been the paradigm of greatness in the league, and the reported contract is a reflection of that.

Wilson’s Resume Screams For Itself; She Has No Equal In The WNBA

Ever since being drafted first overall by the Aces in the 2018 WNBA Draft, A’ja Wilson has asserted herself as the league’s preeminent force. The seven-time all-star notched Rookie of the Year honors and was named an all-star for the first time that season. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the center from South Carolina was recognized as regular-season MVP for the first of her four instances.

Wilson, 29, was instrumental in helping the Aces win their first championship during the 2022 season. In that playoff run, she averaged 20.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per contest, proving that her game is translatable to higher leverage situations. The Aces also won the Commissioner’s Cup during the same year, a year in which they and Wilson owned the entire league.

Last season was arguably the two-time Finals MVP’s magnum opus for her illustrious career. She guided Las Vegas to its third WNBA crown in four years, a feat which had not been done since the Houston Comets four-peated in the nascent years of the association from 1997-00. Individually, Wilson became the first ever (WNBA or NBA) to earn a scoring title, MVP trophy, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in a single season.

Wilson is the WNBA’s all-time leader in points per game (21.4), and her name is emblazoned on three of the top five slots for most points scored in a single season, including a record 1,021 points in 2024. Also, in 2024, A’ja set records for rebounds in a season (451) and win shares (10.86). Her 28.89 career player efficiency rating is also the best all-time. It’s undeniable that Wilson’s trajectory is the greatest WNBA player of all time, if not at least in the conversation.

Aces Also Sign Guard Chennady Carter

Another former SEC player is heading to Las Vegas. The Aces announced Chennady Carter has signed a training camp contract. Carter has averaged 14.6 points in her career and was named to the All-Rookie team in 2020. However, the guard from Texas A&M has not played in two of the past three seasons, including in 2025, so there could be some rust to her game. If she can recapture her form, this could prove to be a shrewd addition by the Aces.
