San Antonio Spurs Guard Stephon Castle With a Great 5 Games

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio Spurs Guard Stephon Castle has been great over his last five games. Over that stretch, he is averaging 24.1 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. He is also shooting 51.6% from the field. His streak began against the Houston Rockets and continued against the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, Brooklyn Nets, and Sacramento Kings.

Castle came into the NBA off back-to-back titles in college at UConn. He was drafted No. 4 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He has had a solid rookie season and has been even better over the last five games. He is averaging 13.4 points per game, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists this year. Castle is now the favorite to be named the Rookie of the Year. Will he be able to keep it going over the final 20 games of the regular season?

San Antonio Spurs Season Summary

San Antonio was aggressive at the NBA Trade Deadline acquiring Point Guard De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings. The team hoped Fox would bring on-court success as San Antonio hoped to sneak into the NBA Play-In Tournament. Unfortunately, that plan fell by the wayside when Center Victor Wembanyama suffered a season-ending blood clot in his shoulder. Castle has picked up the slack in the big man’s absence.

The San Antonio Spurs have a 26-35 record and are the 13th seed in the Western Conference. Their offense has been mediocre. They are 16th in points scored, 17th in field goal percentage, and 21st in three-point percentage. San Antonio’s defense has also been middling. They are 21st in points allowed, 18th in field goal percentage, and 12th in three-point percentage.

Final Thoughts

Castle and the San Antonio Spurs return to the court tomorrow night on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves. If Castle continues playing at this level he will lock up the Rookie of the Year Award. With Wembanyama winning the award last season, it would be the second consecutive year a Spurs player took home the honor.
