Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh Says He Has More To Prove

John Harbaugh

Baltimore Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh says he still has more to prove. After 18 seasons in Baltimore the Michigan product is proud of his accomplishments. The Ravens recently awarded Harbaugh with a 3-year contract extension this offseason. The former special teams coach had an opportunity to reminisce recently at the league meetings.

“I feel like I have a lot more to prove,” Harbaugh said. “Our team has a lot more to prove, and I feel like I have a lot of good ideas, and our group has a lot of good ideas. We’re still growing, big time. I just feel like there’s no stopping us, and I can’t wait to try this stuff out next year. As long as I feel that way, I think I’m going to keep coaching.”

Long Road For Ravens Coach

John Harbaugh was hired by the Baltimore Ravens in 2008. He was the ninth-youngest coach in the NFL at the time. Entering the 2025 NFL season, he is now the third-oldest at 62. The only two older are Pete Carroll, 73, and Andy Reid, 67. Harbaugh is currently under contract in Baltimore through the 2028 season. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Ravens in the 2023 AFC Championship Game. In 2024, Baltimore was defeated by the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round.

Harbaugh To Break Baltimore Sports Record

Harbaugh will surpass Baltimore Orioles Manager Earl Weaver in years leading a team in Baltimore this season. Weaver managed the Orioles for 17 seasons. Harbaugh has developed the Ravens into a perennial playoff team. Harbaugh won the Super Bowl in 2012. However, the Ravens are only 4-7 in the postseason since, with only one conference championship appearance.

“In the playoffs, we haven’t been able to put it together for three or four games to win the Super Bowl championship, and that’s the hard thing,” Harbaugh remarked recently. “That’s why only one team does it, so we understand that. That’s the way it’s set up, but we want to be that team, and we’re good enough to do it, so we want to find a way to do it.”

If Harbaugh and the Ravens can win another Super Bowl, he would break another coaching record. The record for the longest gap between Super Bowls is held by Bill Belichick. He had no titles with the New England Patriots between 2005 and 2013.

Final Thoughts

John Harbaugh has had an impressive coaching career. He has won one of the toughest divisions in football six times over his 18-year head coaching career. With Lamar Jackson, Baltimore can threaten for a title every season. It may not top beating his brother, Jim, in the Super Bowl in 2012, but John will find himself with another chance soon.
