President Donald Trump Checks In On Health Of Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
Look, we’ve all been there. You run into someone from a different city, and instead of asking about the weather or local landmarks, you immediately demand an update on their hometown sports franchise. It is a universal fan reflex. As it turns out, the Oval Office is no exception to the rule.
When you have the owners of a legendary Kansas City barbecue joint visiting Washington, you might think the conversation would center around the secret to a perfect burnt end or the rising costs of brisket. But Donald Trump had a much more pressing issue on his mind. He wanted to talk about a knee. Specifically, the surgically repaired left knee of one Patrick Mahomes.
A White House Summit Takes a Detour To Arrowhead Stadium
During a recent Small Business Summit at the White House, brothers Joe and Mike Pearce, the masterminds behind Slap’s BBQ in Kansas City, Kansas, were showing off their legendary sauces and merchandise. They were there alongside more than 130 other small business owners. It was supposed to be a standard grip-and-grin political event.
Instead, Trump took one look at the guys from Chiefs Kingdom and immediately pivoted from economic policy to the NFL injured reserve list. “Most importantly, how is Mahomes doing?” Trump asked the Pearce brothers. “Is he OK?”
It was a completely genuine moment of football-induced panic. When Mahomes went down in Dec. 2025 with a torn ACL and LCL, the collective gasp from NFL fans could be heard from coast to coast. The idea of the league’s most electrifying player watching from the sidelines is a tough pill to swallow, no matter where you live.
From Pitmasters To NFL Insiders: The Unlikely Experts
When the President of the United States asks you for a medical update on a two-time MVP, you have to deliver. The barbecue brothers didn’t flinch.
“He’s going to be OK,” they assured President Trump. “You tell the people we love him,” Trump replied. “He’s going to be OK. I hate to see that.” But Trump wasn’t ready to let the guys off the hook with a generic response. He wanted a timeline. He pushed the pitmasters for the kind of insider scoop usually reserved for Adam Schefter. “So, he’ll start Game 1, you think?”
At this point, Joe and Mike had to lean on the pure, unadulterated hope that fuels every football fan during the offseason. “We’re hopeful,” they chimed in together. They might know exactly how long it takes to smoke a pork butt to absolute perfection, but predicting the structural integrity of a reconstructed knee in September? That is a slightly tougher read.
Andy Reid Gives Us the Real Patrick Mahomes Update
While the BBQ summit gave us plenty of laughs, the actual updates coming out of the Chiefs’ facility are just as encouraging. Head Coach Andy Reid recently addressed the media and sounded pretty optimistic about his superstar quarterback.
According to him, Mahomes is already throwing the football and doing work on his own. As the Chiefs gear up for organized team activities (OTAs) later this spring, the coaching staff expects him to participate in non-contact drills. The franchise is obviously going to protect its most valuable asset at all costs, especially after beefing up the backfield with guys like Kenneth Walker III to take some of the pressure off Mahomes’ shoulders early in the year.
At the end of the day, whether you are a die-hard season ticket holder tailgating in the Arrowhead parking lot, a pitmaster slinging ribs on Central Avenue, or Donald Trump hosting a summit in the nation’s capital, the sentiment remains the same. We all just want to see number 15 back under center when September rolls around.
