Tied Up: NBA Playoffs Off To Strong Start With Competitive First Round
The NBA Playoffs are off to a great start, and while some teams have taken control of their series, others are fighting for a lead. At this point in the playoffs, three teams have a lead over their opponents.
When it comes to the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder are undefeated in their matchups. The Lakers are 2-0 in their series against the Houston Rockets, and the Thunder are 2-0 against the Phoenix Suns.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have a 2-0 lead over the Toronto Raptors, and they are looking to improve to 3-0 with a road win. However, the Raptors are looking to get a win in front of their home crowd. So, the upcoming game could be a battle, and the Raptors have a shot at extending the series.
Contenders Come To Compete, Begin NBA Playoff Journeys
Outside of those series, every team has won at least one game. The Denver Nuggets started their NBA Playoffs with a 116-105 victory at home, but the Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a road win in Game 2. They beat the Nuggets 119-114, and they are headed to Minnesota with a chance to take the lead.
Minnesota played well in its home games this year, as the Timberwolves were 26-15 in those outings. This is the perfect opportunity for Anthony Edwards and his teammates, as they can build some momentum and potentially pull off an upset. However, Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets will not go down without a fight.
The series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers is something to keep an eye on, as the Blazers pulled off a close win in Game 2. They beat the Spurs 106-103, and Scoot Henderson led his team to victory. He had 31 points, and with contributions from players such as Deni Avdija and Robert Williams III, the Blazers came out victorious.
Blazers Seeking Another Win
The series between these teams has been competitive, and the Blazers have a legitimate shot at winning Game 3. The Spurs finished the second game without Victor Wembanyama, as he exited the game after a hard fall. The young star entered concussion protocol, and while he is traveling with the team, his status remains uncertain.
Portland won on the road, and as a team that finished 18-23 in road games, the Blazers won one when it mattered most. Now, they want to keep that going.
The Western Conference has been competitive all year, and these playoff matchups are another reminder. The Blazers and the Timberwolves are the underdogs in their series, and with their recent wins, they put themselves in a position to succeed.
Eastern Conference Playoffs Begin On a Good Note
As far as the Eastern Conference, the Orlando Magic started their series with a bang. They beat the Detroit Pistons in the first game of the series. They beat the Pistons 112-101 in Game 1, but Detroit responded in the second. Now, Orlando is headed home, and the young team wants to stun the No. 1 seed.
On top of that series, there are two more ties in the East, as the Atlanta Hawks beat the New York Knicks in Game 2, and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics.
The NBA Playoffs have been exciting, and some of these series will come down to the wire. The Cavaliers, the Lakers, and the Thunder may be on the verge of a sweep, but all of the other matchups are up for grabs. Teams are fighting for a championship, and as time goes on, these matchups will be even more competitive.
