Ja Morant Ruled Out For Rest Of Season With Elbow Injury

USA; Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant stands on the court

On Tuesday, the Memphis Grizzlies said that star Guard Ja Morant would miss the rest of the 2025-26 season with a sprained UCL in his left elbow. Morant is expected to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection to aid in his recovery, and the team is confident that he will make a complete recovery before the next season.

Injury Details and Impact

Ja Morant is a 6-foot-2 guard in his seventh NBA season out of Murray State. He had played only 20 games this year with an average of 19.5 points per game. This is his lowest scoring average since his second season. The injury was sustained late in January, a few weeks after Morant had made a two-week absence due to calf soreness.

This recent failure is a worrying pattern for the 26-year-old, who has played in only 79 games in the past three seasons.

Career Highlights and Playing Style

Ever since being picked second in the 2019 NBA Draft, right after Zion Williamson, Ja Morant has been recognized as an electrifying player. Nightly, the guard was featured on highlight reels, and the tallest centers in the league were tested against him. He dunked on them, cut through the narrow defenses of an opponent, and helped on the retrieves with superhuman speed.

The early career achievements include becoming an NBA Rookie of the Month in 2020 and being named Most Improved Player in 2022. When healthy, Morant is one of the most thrilling and productive guards in the league due to his high-flying experience.

Off-Court Issues and Suspensions

Ja Morant has also been affected by off-court occurrences in his career path. In March 2023, he was suspended for eight games following a video of him waving a gun at a nightclub in the Denver area. He was not charged with any crime.

In the same year, Morant was implicated in another incident when he was on a livestream holding a gun in a car, an action that prompted the NBA to suspend him for 25 games back in the 2023-24 season.

What To Expect

Nonetheless, the Grizzlies remain fully confident in Ja Morant’s future and his potential to make a strong comeback. The team focused on the fact that the platelet-rich plasma treatment will assist him in regaining full fitness to make a recovery for the 2026-27 season. Memphis is also looking forward to their star guard being in perfect health and able to guide the team back and be one of the most exciting players in the NBA.

Wrapping It Up

Although the last two seasons have been disappointing for Ja Morant due to injuries and other off-court issues, it is impossible to deny his talent and influence on the court. The Grizzlies believe he will recover and look forward to seeing him back on the team and establishing himself as a major leader and driving force next season.
