Will Toronto Raptors Forward Brandon Ingram Play In Game 7 Against Cleveland Cavaliers?
The Raptors are staring at the kind of playoff problem that can turn a locker room quiet in a hurry. Brandon Ingram, Toronto’s leading scorer during the regular season, is doubtful for Game 7 against the Cavaliers after showing up to shootaround in a walking boot. That is not exactly the sort of accessory a team wants to see a few hours before a winner-take-all game.
Ingram has been dealing with a heel injury that he aggravated early in Game 5. He played only 11 minutes in that loss, then sat out Game 6 while Toronto somehow found a way to survive without him. The Raptors forced this deciding game with an overtime win powered by Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and a shot from Barrett that bounced so high off the rim it looked like it needed airport clearance before dropping through.
Why Ingram’s Absence Matters So Much
Even with a shaky postseason by his standards, Ingram still changes the way defenses behave. During the regular season, he averaged 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 47.7% from the field and 38.2% from three. That is not easy to replace with hustle, positive vibes, and a good pregame playlist.
When Ingram is on the floor, the Raptors have another player who can create a shot late in the clock. That matters in Game 7, where possessions get tighter, nerves get louder, and every half-open look starts to feel like a math final.
Without Ingram, Toronto has to lean even harder on Barnes and Barrett. To their credit, both have answered the call. Barnes was brilliant in Game 6, putting up 25 points and 14 assists. Barrett added 24, including the miracle bounce that saved Toronto’s season. Ja’Kobe Walter also stepped up with 24 of his own, which gave the Raptors exactly the kind of unexpected punch teams need in April and May.
What the Raptors Need if Ingram Can’t Go
If Ingram is unavailable, Toronto’s formula is pretty clear. First, the Raptors have to defend like their rent is due. Their pressure has bothered Cleveland’s backcourt throughout the series, especially when James Harden gets loose with the ball. Second, they need Barnes to keep controlling the game without forcing it. He has been the steady hand, the engine, and at times the whole dashboard.
Third, they need one more fearless night from Barrett. He does not have to hit another shot that belongs in franchise mythology, but he does need to attack early and keep Cleveland from loading up on Barnes.
The other factor is pace. Toronto has been at its best when it turns chaos into points. The Raptors are younger, quicker, and more comfortable, making this game ugly.
Ingram Status Leaves Toronto With One Last Question
There is still a chance Ingram gives it a go, but doubtful usually means exactly what it sounds like. And even if he plays, the bigger question is whether he can be effective on a compromised heel in the most intense game of the season.
That is the cruel part of playoff basketball. A player like Ingram spends all year being one of the reasons you get here, and then the body decides it has other plans.
