New York Yankees Lose To Angels 11-4 and Split Four Games In This Long Series

Apr 13, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees shortstop José Caballero (72) looks on from the dugout during the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Angels at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees were exuberant after a walk-off win on Wednesday night. It was their second walk-off win this series. They only had three walk-off wins all of last year. Jose Caballero got the walk-off hit last night, and he had two hits and a stolen base in this game. Because the Yankee ace Max Fried started the game for the Yankees against a bullpen arm for the Angels, the Yanks felt confident in this game. Yet they lost 11-4.

Today was a sunny and warm day at Yankee Stadium. In fact, it was warm enough that it felt like summertime. It is closer to summer than fans think for the Yanks. The vaunted competitors in the difficult American League East Division are off to poor starts. The Yanks need to take advantage of this. Do you think they will?

Oswald Peraza continued his hot series against his former team with a two-run home run against Fried. However, the Yankees got one run back when Aaron Judge hit his 89th career first-inning home run. Then, Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run home run. Not only did the Yankees take a 3-2 lead, but they are 53-7 in games where both Judge and Stanton hit home runs. However, the pesky Angels scored four runs in the sixth inning.

Day Games After Night Games

In day games after night games, especially when it is hot, like today, teams tend to rest players. This can be the case for veterans, for instance, the Angels started Mike Trout at designated hitter. That gave him a half-day off. The most likely players to sit out are catchers.

Both the Yankees and the Angels sat their catchers from last night. In the case of the Yankees, this meant JC Escarra started. He is hitless so far this year and came up in the second inning with runners on second and third base and struck out.

Bullpen Games

For the longest time, this game, the Angels did not name a starting pitcher. That was because they did not have one. This was a bullpen game for them. That means they started a relief pitcher and then replaced pitchers every couple of innings. Unfortunately for teams that face a bullpen opponent, fresh pitchers are called upon at key moments of the game. This happened in the third inning with Judge, who flew out to left field, facing a pitcher who had just come into the game.

Nice Job Jazz

Jazz Chisholm is struggling, but his heart is in the right place. Last night, in tribute to Jackie Robinson, he bloused his trousers. That is not how he usually wears his pants, but it is how Robinson wore his. Chisholm has yet to hit his first home run, but he stole his ninth base of the season in the second inning of this game. He is on pace to steal 68 bases this season.

Heavyweight Battle

This series featured Trout, for the Angels, and Judge for the Yankees. They put on a show. Trout hit five home runs in the series. His fifth was a monstrous one at 446 feet. He had 9 RBI during the series. The Yankees could not get him out. Judge, for his part, hit four home runs. He had 5 RBI. They put on a show that thrilled baseball fans all across this country.
