New York Yankees Lose 6-1 As Home Winning Streak Ends and Nathan Eovaldi Dominates

May 1, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees pitcher Will Warren (29) delivers a pitch during the fourth inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees lost this game 6-1 as Starting Pitcher Will Warren was bad and was pulled from the game after just four innings pitched. He allowed six runs, which was a lot against Nathan Eovaldi. He has started 24 games against the Yankees in his career, and 3 relief appearances. He has a 2.92 ERA, and he has not allowed a run to the Yankees this season, so six runs allowed were a bunch.

A team losing 3-2 indeed is the same as them losing a lot to a little. So, the Yankees’ loss in this game was no worse than losing a close game, even though this game was a blowout. The problem is that when a team is trying to stay in first place in their division and competing for the best record in baseball, they cannot afford to lose games. The Braves lost today, the Rays did not. Do you think the Yankees will win the American League East?

Yankees and Texas Rangers Game Summary

Texas scored one run in the first inning on a Corey Seager home run. Then they scored three runs in the third inning, punctuated by a two-run home run from Evan Carter. The 4-0 deficit was a big one for the Yanks against their nemesis. Texas scored two more runs in the fourth inning, on a groundout and a sacrifice fly. The score was 6-0, and that was it for Warren, who was pulled from the game after just four innings pitched.

Rodriguez Sent Down

The Yankees made a roster move after the win last night. They sent the starting pitcher from that game. Elmer Rodriguez, down, called up the relief pitcher Yerry De los Santos, who had been with the team earlier in the season. He will be up for a couple of days, though he got in the game today with Warren struggling.

The good news is that De los Santos will get sent down on Monday, and Carlos Rodon will get called up. Rodriguez knew he was only going to make two starts, and Rodon was going to start in his place.

Red Hats Bad Luck

In pregame batting practice, the Yankees wore red hats, which was otherwise the same. Joe Girardi and Michael Kay were wearing those hats in the booth during the game. Baseball is renowned for its superstitions.

For instance, my high school baseball team was very good. Before the 1988 season, they got a new scoreboard. They lost the first game of the subsequent season, using the new scoreboard. So, they never turned that scoreboard on again. It is probably still there, not being used. The red hats should never be seen again.

Pimping It

Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a home run last night. That was a big run, as the solo home run gave the Yanks a 4-3 lead. When he hit the home run, he stared at it for a few seconds. Then, he flipped his bat. In the old days, he would have been hit in his next at-bat. However, he was not. Instead, he was celebrated.

Walks

One of the key reasons for the Yankees’ being successful this season is that they have walked often, and they have not walked opposing batters. That was not the case tonight. Warren walked three batters in four innings.

De los Santos walked another. Eovaldi did not walk any batters. The game has become so power-dependent that walks are bad news. Pitchers put batters on base and then give up home runs. The Yankees have been really good at that this season.
