New York Yankees Announce Addition to Monument Park in 2026
The New York Yankees have been one of the top teams in terms of finding and acquiring legitimate talent over the years. From drafting to trading to free agency, they have been able to find stars to lead them to their 27 World Series championships. It is time to honor one of them as they announced a new monument will be added to Monument Park this season.
Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what they did while wearing the pinstripes.
The New York Yankees are retiring #52 for CC Sabathia
The New York Yankees announced that on Sept. 26, 2026, they are going to do something rarely seen. After making the Hall of Fame last year, starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia will be heading to Monument Park to forever be immortalized. In addition, the team is retiring his 52 jersey, meaning no other player will ever be able to wear it for the New York Yankees again.
Sabathia spent the majority of his career with the New York Yankees, joining in the 2009 season and retiring in 2019. During those 11 seasons, he went 134-88 with a 3.81 ERA in 307 games (306 starts). He would be named to three American League All-Star teams (2010-12) and be a driving force for the team’s 2009 World Series championship.
There have been a lot of talents over the years to be part of Monument Park after their career has ended for the franchise. Below is the list of players with their numbers retired and in Monument Park ahead of the 2026 season:
- 1: Billy Martin
