Misiorowski Delivers a Start for the Ages

Misiorowski celebrating his dominant outing on the mound

Jacob Misiorowski didn’t just dominate the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. He delivered one of the most overwhelming pitching performances in modern baseball history. In front of a charged crowd at American Family Field, the Brewers’ 22-year-old ace carved through the lineup with a one-hit shutout, striking out 15 and facing the minimum 27 batters in a 6–0 win.

The lone baserunner he allowed, a Kyle Schwarber single in the fourth, disappeared moments later on a double play. From there, Misiorowski turned the night into a showcase of power, precision, and poise that instantly entered the record books.

A Maddux is baseball shorthand for a complete-game shutout thrown in fewer than 100 pitches. It is a club reserved for pitchers who blend efficiency with command. But no one had ever done it the way Misiorowski did it Friday.

His 15 strikeouts are the most ever recorded in a Maddux since pitch tracking began in 1988, surpassing the previous high of 13 shared by Clayton Kershaw in 2017 and Tarik Skubal in 2025. He needed only 95 pitches to finish the job, rewriting the standard for what a dominant, efficient outing can look like.

MLB.com confirmed the same milestone. Misiorowski pitched the most strikeouts ever in a Maddux, breaking Skubal’s mark and doing it while facing the minimum.

Velocity That Defies Belief

Even in an era of triple digit arms, Misiorowski stands alone. He hit 100 mph 58 times in the game and topped out at 104.5 mph, the fastest pitch ever thrown by a starting pitcher in the pitch tracking era.

His final pitch of the night, No. 95, was a 103.1 mph fastball that blew past Justin Crawford for strikeout No. 15. Eight of his nine pitches in the ninth inning were clocked at 100 mph or higher. The lone exception was a 92.2 mph changeup.

According to MLB.com, Misiorowski now owns the 26 fastest pitches thrown by a starter since pitch tracking began. No one else is close.

A Game Score That Places Him Among Legends

The Brewers’ ace finished with a Game Score of 100, the highest recorded since Justin Verlander’s 2019 no hitter and only the 155th such score in MLB history.

For context, the Brewers’ franchise record before Friday was a 95 from Corbin Burnes in 2021. Ben Sheets’ iconic 18 strikeout game in 2004 produced a 94. Misiorowski topped them both.

This wasn’t just the best start of his young career. It was arguably the greatest pitching performance in Brewers history.

A Dominant Stretch Reaches Its Peak

As overwhelming as Friday night was, it didn’t come out of nowhere. Over his last eight starts, Misiorowski has allowed earned runs in only one of them, posting a microscopic 0.17 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 54⅓ innings.

He has been the driving force behind Milwaukee’s surge to a 42–25 record and first place in the NL Central.

Manager Pat Murphy summed up the night and the pitcher with a simple line:

“Amazing. Amazing young man… He just goes out and lets it eat.”
