Dallas Mavericks Point Guard Kyrie Irving is out with a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee. He fell to the injury late in the first quarter of the Mavericks’ loss to the Sacramento Kings on Monday night. This is a huge blow to the Dallas Mavericks season.
Kyrie Irving’s Season Is Over
Irving was the team’s best overall player this season and appeared in 50 of the team’s 62 games. Irving is the only NBA player this season averaging at least 20 points, 40% 3-point shooting, and 90% from the free throw line. Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists this season. He has a $44 million player option for the 2025-26 season. It is the final year of a three-year, $126 million deal he signed in 2023.
The Dallas Mavericks are already out with Anthony Davis. He suffered an adductor strain after being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to Dallas for Luka Doncic. Now, the Dallas Mavericks will be on an uphill climb with the laundry list of injuries they have sustained this season and within the past month.
With Monday’s loss to the Kings, the Mavericks dropped to 32-30, putting them in the No. 10 spot in the West. Dallas has a 3.5-game cushion on the Phoenix Suns for the final play-in tournament spot. Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Jason Kidd said Monday to reporters, “The injuries that we’ve had this season; guys are trying to hold it together to get other bodies back.”
Ahead For the Dallas Mavericks
With Irving out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, the Dallas Mavericks will have to hold it together to maintain their spot in the standings and hopefully win more games to pull even further ahead of the Phoenix Suns.
The Mavericks are hoping Davis can return soon along with Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively II, PJ Washington, and Caleb Martin. It is not looking good for the Dallas Mavericks as the season winds down, but time will tell how they finish the season and if they make the play-in tournament without Irving.
