Jalen Brunson Dominates; New York Knicks One Win Away From NBA Finals

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11) moves the ball against Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell (45).

The New York Knicks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-108 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday, May 23, 2026, taking a commanding 3-0 series lead. Despite playing on the road in Cleveland, the Knicks controlled the matchup, securing their 10th consecutive postseason victory. New York’s versatile wing defense and superior second-half execution proved too much for the Cavaliers.

With a 3-0 series lead, the Knicks are now just one victory away from securing a spot in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

Jalen Brunson’s Explosive Second Half Performance

Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 30 points, exploding after halftime by scoring 21 of his points in the second half. He finished the night with 30 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds while shooting 10-of-19 (52.6%) from the field. He went 0-for-4 from three-point range but was completely dominated by hunting mismatches inside the arc.

He consistently beat defenders like James Harden and Dean Wade off the dribble to paint a masterpiece of baseline jumpers, bank shots, and tough layups in traffic.

The Knicks entered halftime with a 60-54 lead after going on a 10-4 run. Brunson scored 6 points during a critical 8-1 third-quarter surge, blowing the game open to give New York an insurmountable 83-70 lead with a little over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. His relentless penetration collapsed the Cavaliers’ interior defense, allowing him to kick out for open perimeter looks, including a clutch assist to Laundry Shamet (14 pts).

Brunson’s explosive second-half efficiency was completely different from Cleveland’s backcourt, as he comfortably outscored Donovan Mitchell (23 pts) and Harden (19 pts, 5 ast, 5 rbs) combined in the final two quarters. Mitchell shot a staggering 4-of-14 in the second half, while Harden was held to just four total shot attempts following the intermission.

Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby’s Impact

While Jalen Brunson dominated the second half, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby carried the Knicks early in the game, combining for 43 points on a highly efficient 17-of-25 shooting performance to anchor the 121-108 victory over the Cavaliers.

Bridges put together his most impactful game of the series, bouncing back flawlessly from his early-postseason offensive woes. He finished as the team’s second-leading scorer with 22 points while shooting a stellar 11-of-15 from the field, logging 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks in 39 minutes of play. He registered a game-high +19 plus-minus rating by suffocating Cleveland’s perimeter options.

After missing time earlier in the playoffs with a hamstring strain, Anunoby has truly looked like his elite, pre-injury self. He contributed 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. He went 6-of-10 from the field, including a lethal 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and hit all 6 of his free-throw attempts. He continually collapsed Cleveland’s zone defense with physical drives, giving the Knicks a +11 advantage during his 31 minutes on the court.

Can Cleveland Bounce Back?

Mathematically and historically, the Cavaliers face nearly impossible odds, as no team in NBA history has ever successfully overcome a 3-0 series deficit, but this has been an NBA postseason jam-packed with history making! Out of 161 teams that have fallen behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven playoff series, all 161 ultimately lost the series.

The primary issue for Cleveland is pure exhaustion. The Cavs are running on fumes after being dragged through consecutive grueling seven-game series against the Toronto Raptors and the Detroit Pistons. New York, having swept the Philadelphia 76ers and sent the Atlanta Hawks home in six, looks visibly fresher, hungrier, and more physical. Cleveland’s players must find a way to match New York’s second-half intensity if they want to stay competitive.

Mitchell must find ways to get his shot off over Bridges and Anunoby, and Harden has to come alive. He cannot allow New York’s denial tactics to phase him out of the offense completely. He has to remain aggressive as a secondary scorer and primary playmaker.

Looking Ahead To Game 4

Game 4 tips off on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 8:30 PM ET at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, with the Knicks looking to complete the sweep and advance to the NBA Finals. The Cavs are expected to try once again and alter their defensive screening coverages to prevent Brunson from isolating against a fatigued Harden. Mitchell will look to have an explosive game.

Expect Knicks Head Coach Mike Brown to utilize his bench depth and fresher legs to bury the exhausted Cavaliers early to move on to the NBA Finals. Once they close the door on Cleveland, the Knicks will await the winner of the Oklahoma City Thunder-San Antonio Spurs showdown, with Game 4 tipping off tonight in San Antonio. The Thunder lead the series 2-1.
