Houston Rockets Center Alperen Sengun is in great company following his being named a Western Conference All-Star reserve on Thursday night. The last four Houston centers to be named an NBA All-Star are Dwight Howard, Yao Ming, and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Sengun was named an NBA All-Star for the first time on Thursday. He is averaging 19.2 points per game, 10.4 rebounds, and 5 assists during the regular season. He is averaging the ninth-most rebounds in the league this season. Will Sengun finish the first half of the regular season on a high note and carry it into the second half?

The Houston Rockets have been one of the most surprising teams in the NBA this season as they are second in the Western Conference. Sengun and Shooting Guard Jalen Green have been the driving force behind Houston’s tremendous regular season. Houston’s offense has been middling this season. They are 13th in points per game, and 25th in field goal percentage, but the best rebounding team in the association.
Houston’s defense has been their calling card this season. That is the hallmark of Head Coach Ime Udoka’s teams. They are fifth in opponent points per game, fourth in opponent field goal percentage, and force the seventh-most turnovers per game. With a middling offense and one of the NBA’s best defenses, Houston is sixth in point differential at the time of publication.
Final Thoughts
Sengun celebrated his first career All-Star Game selection by sitting out of Thursday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a calf injury. Houston heads home for a one-game homestand on Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets. Sengun is having a career season and will look to guide the Houston Rockets to the NBA Playoffs for the first time since the 2019-2020 season. After a rough few seasons, things are seemingly improving in “H-Town.”
