Trick Williams Retains US Title at WWE Backlash 2026 against Sami Zayn

Trick Williams is already a star in WWE as he entered Backlash as the United States Champion. He had a rematch against Sami Zayn after retaining the championship at Wrestlemania 42. This match had a lot of story elements to it, so let’s take a closer look at how the match played out.

After having the funeral of The Gingerbread Man and Lil Yachty being ringside, Trick Williams was able to secure another victory over Sami Zayn to retain the WWE United States Championship. The WWE Universe had a lot of fun with this match as we continued to see Zayn go towards more of a heel dynamic, using the kendo stick and faking a knee injury throughout the match.

Williams had a solid showing throughout the match and was able to hold his own against one of the best wrestlers that the company has to offer. After Lil Yachty hit Zayn in the back with a kendo stick, Williams hit the Trick Shot to record the pin and retain his championship. The contenders for the United States Championship is going to be intriguing as there are names like Matt Cardona and Royce Keys who could be new matchups for the Lemon Pepper Stepper after Backlash.

It also appears that Lil Yachty is going to continue to be part of the act after Backlash. This adds some pop culture appeal as Yachty is a recognizable person in the music world and gives Williams that additional appeal. However, it did look like when Zayn hit Williams with the kendo stick that there could be a bit of a divide brewing under the surface.

In terms of Zayn, his heel-like tendencies continue to be a story in their own right.
