Stephanie Vaquer Reveals Illness Nearly Ruined Emotional WWE Title Victory

Stephanie Vaquer’s emotional win in the Women’s World Championship wrestling match against IYO SKY in 2025 Wrestlepalooza was one of the most memorable moments of the event. The fact that she won the title in front of her father made the occasion all the more special, but Vaquer has now revealed that the match was about to be canceled.

Vaquer indicated that she had been ill a few weeks before the championship opportunity. The health problem was already causing WWE to change its plans and almost cost her another opportunity on one of the year’s largest stages. Her success at the end becomes even more significant considering the struggle.

Missed Opportunity At Clash In Paris

After emerging victorious in the battle royal at Evolution 2, Vaquer secured her first championship opportunity. That win put her into a championship match that was supposed to be her first attempt at the Women’s World Championship. However, she was unable to compete at the event due to illness.  Instead, WWE assured her comeback at Wrestlepalooza, one of the company’s big events. 

Vaquer explained during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that she was excited after being told Wrestlepalooza would be her next chance. The setback was disappointing, but the promise of another title match kept her motivated.

Another Health Scare Before Wrestlepalooza

Just when things appeared back on track, Vaquer’s problems returned. She revealed that one week before Wrestlepalooza, she became sick again. WWE medical staff reportedly informed her that she would not be cleared to compete at the event.

The news was especially painful because preparations had already been made for her father to attend. Flights had been booked, and everything was arranged to witness what could have been the biggest night of her career. Vaquer described the moment as extremely difficult, knowing another dream opportunity was slipping away.

Refusing to accept the decision without a fight, Vaquer said she spoke directly with Triple H and insisted she was ready to perform. She explained that she told him she felt fine, was no longer sick, and was prepared to compete. Vaquer asked for one final chance to prove she could go through with the match. That determination ultimately paid off, as she was allowed to move forward with the title bout. The decision changed everything.

Dream Night Becomes Reality

Vaquer said arriving at Wrestlepalooza brought a sense of relief after everything she had gone through. Competing on a major WWE stage was already special, but doing so against IYO SKY while her father watched from the crowd made it unforgettable.

She explained that her father was the person who truly witnessed all the sacrifices she had made throughout her career. Sharing that moment with him gave the championship victory emotional value beyond simply winning a title. For Vaquer, it was the reward for years of struggle and perseverance.

Respect For IYO SKY

Vaquer also spoke about SKY, praising the former champion as being one of the best wrestlers in the world. She explained that it was even more significant to be made Women’s World Champion against someone as great as SKY. Vaquer further stated that she admires SKY and considers the match as one of the most proud moments of her career. She also recalled Randy Orton telling her that she and SKY stole the show at Wrestlepalooza, with their match standing out as the event’s highlight. 

Stephanie Vaquer’s title win was already a memorable moment because of the emotion attached to it. Now, with the story behind the scenes revealed, it becomes even more powerful. What fans saw as a championship celebration was actually the end of a battle that began long before she entered the ring.
