Sean Strickland Escalates Rivalry With Khamzat Chimaev Ahead Of UFC 328
Sean Strickland has shared tense words related to Khamzat Chimaev ahead of their much-anticipated UFC 328 main event. Chimaev will be defending the middleweight championship for the first time. The fight will be held next Saturday in Newark, New Jersey, and the feud between the two fighters has only grown in recent weeks.
The promotion of a title fight has evolved into a personal feud that has the potential to be one of the hottest in recent UFC history. The pair have traded barbs, generating much hype for their bout well before it takes place inside the Octagon.
Build-Up Before Fight Night
Much of the recent talk about UFC 328 has centered on the prospect of the two adversaries bumping into each other before the fight. Chimaev recently made waves with a chilling declaration of what might happen if they ran into each other outside the ring. In turn, Strickland said he was not one to be trifled with. His recent appearance further fueled the drama.
Speaking to reporters during a Wednesday media scrum, Strickland said any unexpected confrontation with Chimaev could become extremely serious. He also added that if Chimaev wanted to settle their issues directly and respectfully, there would be another way to handle it. However, Strickland made clear that he believes outside intimidation tactics would not be tolerated.
Personal Tension Beyond Competition
The hostility between the two fighters appears to go beyond the championship stakes. Strickland has repeatedly criticized Chimaev for his association with Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic, who has faced sanctions.
Kadyrov has been linked to several MMA figures over the years and has attended UFC-related events outside the United States, including appearances in Abu Dhabi. Strickland used that association as another reason to target Chimaev publicly. The comments added a political and personal dimension to a rivalry that was already intense because of the title implications.
Strickland Also Targets UFC Matchmaking
During the same interview, Strickland expanded his criticism beyond Chimaev and questioned the UFC’s broader promotional direction. He expressed frustration with the way some international fighters are positioned in title races and claimed the company has moved away from what originally made the sport appealing to him.
In particular, he named former title challenger Nassourdine Imavov as he was talking about the selection of contenders. Strickland implied that the UFC has favorites when it comes to names and markets. He also spoke about Alex Pereira, a fighter who he said is loved by the fans “because he’s American [from Brazil].”
Sean included that, “The UFC does this, they go find these shitty f*cking people in these third-world f*cking countries and, like, do you really give a f*ck about a French guy that doesn’t even claim f*cking France? … UFC is ruining the sport. We’ve accepted Alex [Pereira] because Alex is a f*cking American. Lives in America, loves f*cking p*ssy, maybe a little bit too much, but we accepted this f*cker because he’s like the American dream, right? We look at Alex like, ‘You’re Brazilian, but you’re also American.’
UFC 328 Main Event Is Now Even Bigger
While his comments have sparked controversy, Strickland has yet again helped bring attention to a fight. His flamboyant style has always made him one of the most divisive figures in MMA, and that continues with another title shot.
For Chimaev, it is all about defending his perfect record and showing he can be champion against one of the division’s most formidable opponents. Given the strong emotions and increasingly personal comments, UFC 328 takes on even more significance. Fans are excited and love their heated rivalry that will lead to an explosive fight in the octagon for the middleweight title.
