Fox Sports Jordan Schulz is reporting that former Eagles’ standout cornerback Darius Slay is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The terms of the deal haven’t been released out there to the universe as of the writing of this article but If I were to guess it’ll probably be a one-year deal for the veteran corner as he has previously stated before that he’ll probably retire after this upcoming season.
Darius Slay’s Eagles Career
Ever since being traded to the Eagles in 2020, Slay brought elite cornerback play to the City of Philadelphia for the first time since Asante Samuel dawned the Midnight Green uniform back in the day. Slay was a key member of both Super Bowl teams (won Super Bowl LIX), and he will always be known more as an Eagle than as a Lion. Slay had a strong 2024 season for the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles.
The Value Slay Brings to the Steelers
Slay will bring stability to a Steelers secondary that needed some stability after a terrible second half of the season and he will recalibrate the secondary enough on the other side of Joey Porter Jr for the Steelers to be a viable defense once again in 2025. He is one of those guys who will bring leadership and great corner play on the outside for a young secondary.
Conclusion
Slay will always be a great Eagle and brought Philadelphia a Super Bowl championship. He gets the opportunity to live the rest of his career with the Black and Gold across the state to the Steelers. As an Eagles fan, I want to thank him for everything that he has brought to the Eagles over the last five years, including Super Bowl LIX. He’s going to have a successful season in Pittsburgh for sure, and it does create an interesting locker room with the acquisition of Metcalf and having George Pickens, but this will be huge for the defense.
Update at 4:43: Pro Football Talk has reported that Slay is still an Eagle as he’s a post-June-1 cut and no deal with the Steelers has happened at this moment in time. This is something to monitor over this period.
March 12th Update: Slay officially signed a 1-year, $10 million fully guaranteed deal with the Steelers according to Adam Schefter just after the Free Agency period officially started.
