Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott Restructures Contract

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott restructured his contract on Wednesday. This move has opened up $36.6 million of cap space for the team. The Cowboys converted $45.75 million of Prescott’s base salary to a signing bonus, reducing his cap figure from $89.89 million to $53.29 million. Prescott’s contract was not the only one the Dallas Cowboys restructured in recent days. Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb saved the team $20 million in cap space by redoing his deal on Tuesday.

The Cowboys saved $56.6 million in cap space by restructuring the contracts of their two best offensive players. Will this extra money lead to “America’s Team” making a blockbuster offseason moves as they eye a return to the NFL Playoffs?

Dallas Cowboys Offseason Outlook

One of the reasons Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones could be restructuring the contracts of Prescott and Lamb is to free up the space necessary to lock up Linebacker Micah Parsons for years to come. Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is looking to be one of the highest-paid non-QBs in NFL history.

It will be essential for the Cowboys to have a healthy season from Prescott. He was limited to 8 games last season following a hamstring injury he suffered in November 2024. Dallas is not always a big player in free agency as Jones normally opts to re-sign his own players ahead of doling out contracts to free agents.

Final Thoughts

Prescott choosing to restructure his deal frees up the Dallas Cowboys as they enter an offseason full of uncertainty. The team decided to let Head Coach Mike McCarthy’s contract expire following the season and elevated Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach. Dallas will go as far as a healthy Prescott will take them in 2025.
