Connecticut Sun is the Most Foul-Mouthed WNBA Fandom

With the 2026 WNBA season in progress, the Action Network recently analyzed over 160,000 comments from the subreddits of all 15 WNBA fandoms.

The analysis uncovered the politest and the most foul-mouthed WNBA fandoms. The WNBA’s newest expansion team, the Portland Fire, led in politeness. In contrast, the Connecticut Sun led the way in rudeness.

The analysis also uncovered which fandoms are the most positive and the most negative, along with the most popular swear words among each fandom. Read on for the full study to learn more about the league’s fandoms.

Study’s Highlights
The Connecticut Sun were ranked as the most foul-mouthed WNBA fandom with 3.14% of their comments containing swear words. The Chicago Sky trailed with 2.96%, while the Minnesota Lynx finished in third with 2.65%.

The Sky were also ranked as the most negative WNBA fandom with 27.95% of their comments carrying a negative tone. The Sun trailed with 24.64%, while the Los Angeles Sparks finished in third with 24.17%.

In contrast, the Portland Fire were ranked as the most positive WNBA fandom, with 58.74% of their comments carrying a positive tone. The Dallas Wings trailed with 58.73%, while the Washington Mystics finished in third with 58.01%.

The Fire were also ranked as the politest WNBA fandom with just 1.10% of their comments containing swear words. The Toronto Tempo trailed with 1.16%, while the Golden State Valkyries finished in third with 1.17%.

A spokesperson for the Action Network said, “An analysis of over 160,000 fan comments from the subreddits of all 15 WNBA fandoms from the last 12 months found the Connecticut Sun to be the most foul-mouthed WNBA fandom, with 3.14% of their comments containing swear words, and the Chicago Sky to be the most negative fandom, with 27.95% of their comments carrying a negative tone. On the opposite end, the Portland Fire were found to be both the most positive fandom, with 58.74% of their comments carrying a positive tone, and the most polite fandom, with only 1.10% of their comments containing swear words.”

The Most Foul-Mouthed WNBA Fandoms
According to the Action Network, the top five most foul-mouthed WNBA fandoms were the Connecticut Sun, Chicago Sky, Minnesota Lynx, Los Angeles Sparks (with 2.47% of comments including swear words), and Phoenix Mercury (with 2.33%).

The Most Negative WNBA Fandoms
According to the Action Network, the top five most negative WNBA fandoms were the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Los Angeles Sparks, Phoenix Mercury with 23.44% of comments carrying a negative tone, and Indiana Fever with 23.07%.

The Most Positive WNBA Fandoms
According to the Action Network, the top five most positive WNBA fandoms were the Portland Fire, Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics, Atlanta Dream with 57.65% of comments carrying a positive tone, and Golden State Valkyries with 57.10%.

The Politest WNBA Fandoms
According to the Action Network, the top five politest WNBA fandoms were the Portland Fire, Toronto Tempo, Golden State Valkyries, Indiana Fever with 1.43% of comments including swear words, and Dallas Wings with 1.49%.

Study’s Methodology
The Action Network’s collection period lasted through the last 12 months, with the final analysis conducted in July 2026. A total of 160,523 comments from 15 subreddits across all 15 WNBA fandoms were analyzed for comments with swear words.

The Action Network assigned each WNBA fandom with a percentage value based on the percentage of the comments with swear words in their respective subreddits. A total of 3,112 swear words were found in the comments.

The emotional tone of each comment was assessed — and categorized — as negative, positive, or neutral. A minimum number of 2,500 comments were collected for each WNBA fandom.
