Catholic University had a fantastic meet this weekend at George Mason University in the Dalton Ebanks Invitational. There were several program and personal records set, and Cardinal athletes even won a couple of events. These great performances were on both the men’s and women’s sides.

Men

For the men, the best performance was by Michael Burnett, who won the 5000-meter race in a time of 15:21. Also, a freshman, Tim Brown, set a new personal best in the steeple chase. Peter Winter was awesome in the 800-meter race. He surpassed his previous program time, recording 1:53.43. In the same race, David Stango got his own personal best time.

There were more personal bests for the men on Friday. Emmanuel Olarewaju placed third in the program in the 400-meter hurdles. Drew Madden also recorded a personal best time. That was the fifth-best time in program history. On day two, Michael Brunet again starred. He ran a personal best in the 1500-meter race. That was the seventh-best program time.

There were also some great moments during the sprint events that day. Kendrick DuPree set a personal best in the 400-meter race. That was the seventh-best time in program history. Meanwhile, in the 100-meter race, Calvin Hernandez set a season best, the fourth-best in program history.

Women

The performances were just as good on the women’s side. On the first day of the meet, in the 5000-meter race, Olivia Sobkowicz set a new program record and posted a personal-best time. Laurel McMahon ran in the same heat, setting a personal best and the program’s third-best time.

In the 400-meter race, Mia McConnell had the 28th best division three time with her season best of 1:05.15. Meanwhile, in the 200-meter race, Sarah Schumacher had a season best, and so did Zoey Brown. Ainsley Reisman recorded a personal best.

On the second day of the meet, the stars of the meet for Catholic University were the 100-meter relay team of Erin Buckley, Kortney Clipper, Ainsley Reisman, and Sarah Schumacher. They raced to a new program record.

Mya Sampong ran her personal best in the 400-meter race. That was the eighth-best time in program history for the distance. There were field events that day, but none of the performances were personal bests or program records.

Athlete Of The Meet

For winning the 5000-meter race and for setting a new personal record in the 1500-meter race, Michael Burnett was the athlete of the meet. The freshman is peaking right now, just needs to stay healthy, and will accomplish great things. The future is bright for the newcomer.

Honorable mention goes to the Freshman Olivia Sobkowicz from Catholic University, who set a new personal best and a new program record in the 5000-meter race. She teamed with Laurel McMahon, who ran in the same heat and also got a new program best.
