Chicago Bulls Guard Out With Wrist Injury

The Chicago Bulls we be without Lonzo Ball for a few weeks.

Lonzo Ball has been injured for two and half years in his tenure with the Chicago Bulls and his long absence due to a knee injury ended at the start of this season. After just four games, however, the Bulls will be without the UCLA product again. Ball finds himself injured but his left knee is not the issue this time, it is his right wrist. The Chicago Bulls guard injured his wrist Monday night against the Memphis Grizzlies in his third game of the year.

The Chicago Bulls announced the injury after the win in Memphis and said that Ball will be re-evaluated in ten days. The wrist injury is said to be between a Grade 1 and Grade 2 sprain, with no firm timetable for a return. The injury happened on a first quarter play where Ball went for a steal and fell after he missed, breaking his fall with his right hand. Ball played the rest of the game but will be missing for the next few weeks.

Lonzo Ball Out For Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls received some bad early-season injury news Tuesday when they found out that Lonzo Ball suffered a sprained right wrist in the team’s 126-123 win in Memphis over the Grizzlies Monday night. Ball, who missed 30 months of action with a left knee injury, had played in three of the team’s four games this season and was averaging 4.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in over 15 minutes per game.

Ball said that the injury occurred in the first quarter of the game on an attempted steal that was unsuccessful, leading to Ball falling to the floor and breaking his fall with his right hand. Ball played the rest of the game after taping up his wrist but MRI’s after the game revealed a sprain. The sprain is in between Grade 1 and Grade 2 and will be re-evaluated in ten days according to the Chicago Bulls.

Back to Injury Rehab For Ball

When asked about the injury at Tuesday’s shoot-around, Ball said, “It’s definitely an unfortunate moment, but it happened. Got to deal with it and move on. Hopefully, I can get over it as quick as possible and get right back.” An early return is unlikely for the 6-foot-6 guard out of UCLA. Reports say that any aggravation or setback could result in the injury being upgraded to a Grade 3 sprain, which would require surgery. In the ten days until the injury is re-evaluated, Ball will travel with the team while wearing a protective wrist brace.

Picking up Lonzo Ball’s minutes for the Chicago Bulls will likely be a combination of Talen Horton-Tucker, Dalen Terry, and Julian Phillips. Each player has gotten minutes this year with the latter two assuming a bigger role in their second year with the team. If Billy Donovan doesn’t want to go deeper into his rotation that could mean more minutes for Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, or Zach LaVine.
