The 1-2 Baltimore Ravens will host the undefeated Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football. The Bills are coming off a one-sided victory on Monday Night last week against the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. The Ravens got back to running the football in their first win against the Dallas Cowboys. It will be a fun and intriguing matchup that highlights Week 4 of NFL action.
Ravens Secondary Has Tough Test
While Baltimore has cornerbacks like Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Stephens, and first-round pick Nate Wiggins, they don’t match up well against Buffalo. The Bills feature multiple tight ends like Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, along with multiple receivers. The most consistent has been Khalil Shakir, but second-round rookie Keon Coleman can be a big play threat.
The Bills also have experienced depth at receiver, including Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, and Curtis Samuel. Can the Ravens’ defensive backs, along with safeties Marcus Williams and Kyle Hamilton hold down a spread-out aerial attack that can be pinpoint deadly with Josh Allen?
The Bills secondary has a similar test, as Baltimore can adapt their offensive game plan depending on the flow of the game. Buffalo features players like Damar Hamlin, Christian Benford, Taylor Rapp, Rasul Douglas, and Taron Johnson in their underrated secondary. They will have to match up with Baltimore’s tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, along with receivers Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor. It will be an interesting chess match to watch Sunday night.
Baltimore’s Rushing Success Will Dictate Outcome
The Ravens will need to feed Derrick Henry again, as the Bills are ranked 16th in the NFL against the run, but 8th against the pass. Baltimore’s offensive line, like last week, will need to get push against a good Buffalo defensive front. Players like Greg Rousseau, Daquan Jones, Ed Oliver, and A.J. Epenesa headline that group. Buffalo’s linebackers without Matt Milano like Dorian Williams and Terrel Bernard could be outmuscled if Henry can get going behind the Ravens’ so-so run-blocking unit.
The same goes for the opposite end, as the Ravens have the best run defense, going against James Cook, who is coming off back-to-back games with touchdowns on the ground. It will be interesting how much Allen will take off on the ground and if the Baltimore pass rush, which has been decent so far, can get home. Regardless, Buffalo will likely attack the Ravens at their weak spot, through the air.
Final Thoughts vs. Buffalo Bills
While rain should be a factor Sunday night, it is reminiscent of their last matchup in 2022, where the Buffalo Bills beat the Ravens in Baltimore by a field goal, 23-20 in a messy slugfest. Expect a lot of offensive production on the ground, along with some busted coverage opportunities through the air. Top MVP-caliber quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson will face off in a tight contest that could shake up AFC divisions and the conference itself.
