Brady Tkachuk Is Headed To Florida

Tkachuk on the ice

Florida didn’t hesitate. After acquiring the No. 25 pick from Seattle earlier in the day, the Panthers packaged it with the No. 9 pick, a 2027 first-rounder, and a 2030 second-rounder to pry Tkachuk out of Ottawa.

This is the second time since 2022 that Florida has swung big on a member of the Tkachuk family, and the payoff could be enormous. Brady arrives with two years left on his contract at an $8.2 million cap hit, strong value for a 26-year-old power forward in a rising cap environment.

Why Tkachuk Fits Florida’s Identity

The Panthers already play a bruising, relentless style, and Tkachuk fits that mold perfectly. In 572 career games, he’s posted 213 goals, 250 assists, and 463 points, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier power forwards.

Florida’s top six was already one of the deepest groups in the NHL. Now, the idea of Brady and Matthew Tkachuk flanking Sam Bennett gives the Panthers a line built to torment opponents for an entire playoff run. It’s the kind of move that signals a team refusing to waste its championship window.

Ottawa’s Return and the End of an Era

For the Senators, this is a franchise-shaking decision. Tkachuk, drafted fourth overall in 2018, became the face of the rebuild and wore the “C” with pride. But Ottawa opted for a long-term asset play, securing multiple first-round picks, including two in the upcoming 2026 draft, and a 2030 second-rounder.

It’s a significant haul, but losing a captain in his prime is never easy. Ottawa now shifts into a future-focused mode, hoping those picks accelerate a turnaround.

A Blockbuster With Real Stakes

The Panthers needed a spark after injuries derailed their 2025-26 season. This trade gives them one and then some. Reuniting the Tkachuk brothers months after they helped Team USA win Olympic gold adds another layer to the story. Florida believes this is the move that gets them back to the top of the East.

If they’re right, this will be remembered as the moment their window swung wide open again.
