Atlanta Falcons-Offensive Tackle Jake Matthews Agree On 2-Year Contract Extension

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons and Offensive Tackle Jake Matthews agreed to a 2-year $45 million contract extension on Sunday night. The contract gives the veteran offensive lineman $38 million guaranteed over the next two seasons. He had an overall grade of 79.8 last season which was 15th overall according to PFF. Matthews shone in pass protection being ranked seventh. Will he continue being a key piece of the Atlanta Falcons offensive line?

Atlanta Falcons Offensive Line

Matthews returns to a Falcons offensive line that was strong last season. They were 10th in the league according to Pro Football Network. Matthews will be tasked with protecting young Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for the next few seasons. The team turned to the rookie late in the season and sent veteran Quarterback Kirk Cousins to the bench.

Matthews will be part of a stacked Atlanta Falcons offense. Atlanta is so confident in its offense that it only sent defensive scouts to the 2025 NFL Combine. Atlanta’s offense includes Running Back Bijan Robinson, Wide Receiver Drake London, and Tight End Kyle Pitts.

Final Thoughts

Bringing back Matthews is a shrewd move for the organization. He has been a mainstay for the franchise since he was drafted No. 6 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. As the statistics suggest the veteran lineman has much left in the tank. He will provide veteran experience to a Falcons team looking to experience sustained success.
