Arizona Diamondbacks-Geraldo Perdomo Agree To 4-Year Contract Extension

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo agreed to a four-year $45 million contract extension Monday night. The deal reportedly includes a club option for 2030. He will make $2.55 million this season before the contract extension kicks in for the 2026 season.

The star shortstop had an injury-plagued season in 2024 due to a knee injury sidelining him for over two months. When Pedromo was healthy enough to play, he was mediocre. He hit .273 with 3 home runs and 37 RBI. He was a crucial piece for the Arizona Diamondbacks during their improbable run to the 2023 World Series. He hit .275 over that playoff run. Will this deal work out well for both sides?

Arizona Diamondbacks Season Outlook

Arizona is looking to rebound after following up a World Series appearance by narrowly missing the MLB Playoffs. They finished with the same regular season record as the New York Mets(89-73) but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker. Arizona was 3-4 against the Mets last season.

The Diamondbacks biggest offseason move was signing Starting Pitcher Corbin Burnes to a six-year $210 million contract. He was signed to be Arizona’s ace for years to come. Arizona’s pitching staff was their undoing last year. They were 27th in ERA, 26th in strikeouts, and 29th in opposing batting average. Another shrewd move the Arizona Diamondbacks made this offseason was acquiring Josh Naylor from the Cleveland Guardians. He is slated to play first base for Arizona this season.

Final Thoughts

Pedromo will look to regain his All-Star form from 2023 this season for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona had a tremendous offense in 2024, and they will look to replicate that performance this year. The team made solid moves this offseason to ensure their playoff drought only is one year.
