Cameron Young Completes Dominant Week At Cadillac Championship

Cameron Young watches his tee shot on the 11th hole.

If you tuned into the Cadillac Championship this weekend expecting a nail-biting, down-to-the-wire finish, you probably left a little disappointed. But if you wanted to watch a guy absolutely dismantle a legendary golf course, you definitely got your money’s worth. Cameron Young didn’t just win at Trump National Doral; he put the famed Blue Monster in a headlock and walked away with a cool $3.6 million.

Cameron Young Tames the Blue Monster

Doral is supposed to be hard. It’s a 7,739-yard beast lined with enough water hazards to swallow a fleet of golf carts. But somebody clearly forgot to pass that memo to Cameron Young. From the moment he carded a bogey-free 64 on Thursday, the tournament was essentially playing for second place.

Going wire-to-wire, he completely suffocated the field to finish at an absurd 19-under par. He was hitting drives that made you question the physics of a golf ball and draining putts like the cup was the size of a manhole cover. When the dust finally settled on Sunday afternoon, he was six shots clear of the rest of the pack. On the PGA Tour, that’s not just a win; that’s a public embarrassing of the competition.

A Masterclass In Integrity

Here is where the story gets actual human emotion injected into it. On the par-4 second hole during Sunday’s final round, Cameron Young did something that tells you exactly who he is as a competitor. He was sitting in the middle of the fairway when his club caused his ball to move slightly at address.

Nobody else saw it. The cameras didn’t catch it in real-time. He could have easily looked the other way, hit his approach, and kept marching toward his giant oversized check. Instead, he immediately called a one-stroke penalty on himself. Why? Because that’s golf. He took the penalty on the chin, still managed to scramble for par, and kept his massive lead intact.

Leaving the World Number One In the Rearview

It’s not like the rest of the field was a bunch of weekend hackers, either. Scottie Scheffler, the undisputed top dog in the golf world right now, was right there trying to chase him down. Scheffler played some fantastic golf, carding a 13-under for the tournament and pulling off an absolute magic trick of a plugged bunker shot on the 16th hole.

But even Scheffler’s best wasn’t enough. For the third straight start, Scheffler had to settle for a runner-up finish because Cameron Young was simply playing a different game. Young didn’t blink when the pressure was on. He even drove the green on the brutal par-4 16th, effectively slamming the door shut on any miracle comeback hopes Scheffler had brewing.

What’s Next For the Champ?

With this dominant performance, Cameron Young has firmly established himself as a certified heavyweight on the tour. He already bagged The Players Championship earlier this year, and now he’s conquered Doral.

He hasn’t snagged a major championship just yet, but after watching him systematically pick apart a track as unforgiving as Doral, it feels like it’s only a matter of time. Until then, the rest of the tour is officially on notice.
