Jordan Spieth came into The Masters with hopes of winning another green jacket. He sounded confident going into the weekend, talking about the course with great familiarity. It didn’t take long for things to go south. The former winner had a meltdown in the first round en route to missing the cut and posting his career-worst score at Augusta National.
Jordan Spieth Misses Cut At The Masters
It was the par 5 15th hole that did Jordan Spieth in at The Masters. He came into the hole at two over after a rocky front nine. After a quadruple bogey, the former green jacket winner had a huge uphill battle to make the cut. The first round 79 was the worst of his 11 appearances in the tournament. Still, with another round to go, Spieth was looking to make the cut.
Spieth couldn’t find his groove in the second round, either. While he didn’t have any quadruple bogeys, he had four bogeys and only two birdies. At nine over, he missed the cut. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time he had trouble with the 15th hole. He had a quadruple bogey on the hole in 2017 though that time he still finished 11th.
What’s Next For Jordan Spieth?
The next major is the PGA Championship, which will take place in mid-May. Jordan Spieth has a month to recover from the collapse at Augusta. Spieth had a run in his young career where he couldn’t miss a cut. Now, he has battled with this type of inconsistency. When he is on his game, he looks unstoppable. However, he seems to have these mental lapses, like on the 15th hole on Thursday. He made some questionable decisions, which led to the quadruple bogey. That type of score on a hole is a tournament killer.
Jordan Spieth will have some time to recover but wants to make sure this type of performance doesn’t define his 2024. The Masters is done, but he can still recover and have a successful season.
