Scottie Scheffler was picked by police just before the second round of the PGA Championship. He has just now been released from custody related to an incident where there was a fatal accident on the golf course. The accident also delayed the start of PGA play.

Play today for the PGA Championship was delayed at Valhalla Golf Club due to a fatal accident that occurred next to the course. Scottie, who was near the accident, was doing his best to avoid the area when the police first stopped him.

Later Scheffler was taken away in handcuffs. From a social media video from ESPN, an officer who was following Scottie was heard saying, “Right now, he is going to jail, and there isn’t anything you can do about it.”

The Communication Breakdown With Scottie

The problem between Scottie and the police could be categorized as a misunderstanding as it was not directly related to the fatal accident.

The accident had blocked the road as authorities tended to the situation. Traffic had been building up and almost came to a standstill. Scheffler was attempting to enter Valhalla Golf Club when he decided to use the median to expedite his way through the traffic jam.

As Scheffler bypassed traffic, the police attempted to stop him. Scottie did not heed the officer’s warnings or instructions, so the officer attached himself to the side of Scottie’s vehicle.

Scheffler kept going until he had made it to Valhalla Golf Club’s entrance. He stopped his vehicle about twenty yards away from where the police first instructed him to stop.

Once the car had stopped, the authorities immediately opened the car door and removed Scheffler. The officer forced him against the vehicle and proceeded to put him in handcuffs.

In only a matter of minutes, Scottie was taken away and processed. He was arrested at almost 7:30 ET and released after a little over an hour. His tee-off time has also been pushed back about an hour.

In the PGA Championship, Scottie’s score was just behind Xander Schauffele, who was the leader.

The sport of Golf requires their best to practice, play the short game, have equipment and confidence, control emotions, play smart, and concentrate. How will this change to Scheffler’s morning impair him?

Scheffler has already come away with a win from The Masters and The Players Championship this year. Just last week, he became the proud father of a son, Bennett, so we know he hasn’t been able to sleep.

Scottie may be in luck and receive some unforeseen help from above on this one, as there is a chance of unfavorable playing weather today.

No matter what happens, Scheffler had a rough start to his day. For any athlete, an abrupt and unexpected change is not so easily shaken off before playing for a moment you have prepared for all your life. Later today, we will see how Scottie will fare through all this.
