Many former NFL players, including ones from the Dallas Cowboys, have ended up in spring football. Last year, the XFL and USFL had many recognizable names. The two leagues decided to merge, creating the United Football League (UFL). Former Dallas Cowboys first-round pick Taco Charlton was recently signed by the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.

The Birmingham Stallions are back-to-back champions of the USFL. They are looking to bring that kind of dominance to the UFL. Taco Charlton was the 28th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft going to the Dallas Cowboys. During his senior year at Michigan, he had ten sacks, 13.5 tackles for loss, and two passes deflected. In his rookie year, he showed promise racking up three sacks, 19 tackles, and seven quarterback hits.
Injuries plagued Taco Charlton’s career with the Dallas Cowboys. He never played more than 11 games in a season after his rookie year and he bounced around the league. Charlton played for Miami, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Chicago and was signed by San Francisco this offseason but didn’t make the final roster. He now gets an opportunity with the Birmingham Stallions.
More Success Than With The Dallas Cowboys?
It isn’t a guarantee that Taco Charlton makes the roster. The teams are still in training camp and have until March 23rd to be down to 50 players in total. There is no question about his potential, and the UFL gives him a perfect opportunity to showcase to teams what he can do. We saw many players make NFL rosters after playing spring football, and Charlton hopes to follow that path.
Would a reunion with the Dallas Cowboys be on the table? It isn’t out of the question, as they could use a talented player opposite Micah Parsons. The UFL season kicks off on March 30, with the Birmingham Stallions taking on the Arlington Renegades. If Charlton makes the rosters, we could see him on the field again soon.
