The Birmingham Stallions are looking to increase their offensive production from last year. Regardless of how you feel about the Alabama Crimson Tide, getting one of their players is usually a good move.
Birmingham Stallions Add Wide Receiver Talent
In something of an in-state homecoming, the Birmingham Stallions have just bolstered their championship odds. Already favored by some to win it all, Slade Bolden will be joining the wide receiver corps. The move comes as free agency begins in the newly merged UFL.
Bolden is a three-year college product out of the Crimson Tide. Earning two degrees in four years, he elected to move on to the NFL after his redshirt junior season. He is not only a receiving threat, but also a more than capable return man. Despite playing in a crowded WR room, Coach Nick Saban gave him his trust as a top special teamer. Bolden earned Alabama special team player of the week seven times while at Tuscaloosa. The Birmingham Stallions acquired a player with a great pedigree!
However, after the fourth year at the university, Bolden felt understandably “schooled out”. His professional career has not yet panned out as hoped. However, he is looking to fix this as a member of the Birmingham Stallions.
His Path To The Birmingham Stallions
His joining the Birmingham Stallions is a typical journeyman’s story, despite a career of accolades. Bolden signed as an undrafted free agent. The Baltimore Ravens was his first team. Unfortunately for him, a sports hernia limited his abilities during his first year. After being placed on IR, his time in Baltimore came to an end. After spending time on the practice squad, the Ravens released him from the team later in the year. He then spent some time with the Atlanta Falcons and received numerous tryouts for other teams after his Ravens departure. Despite how events have unfolded, he will be eager to add some game tape to his resume with the Birmingham Stallions. Although he is seen as undersized, his mindset can put any concerns at ease. While playing with Alabama he shared how being overlooked helps to fuel him.
With his history of overcoming, the odds are that he will have an immediate impact on the Birmingham Stallions.
Birmingham Stallions Roster And Title Chances
As stated by our very own Matt Brown, the Birmingham Stallions loaded up on running back talent. One of the key additions is a familiar name to all but a few college football fans. Bo Scarbrough!
Because of past success, a lot are favoring this team to win it all. Especially with Skip Holtz Jr. leading the charge after back-to-back USFL championships. Adding Bolden to the Birmingham Stallions undoubtedly helps!
At his best, he plays as a slot receiver. He has a good route-running ability and a knack for finding space. Above all, when targeted he shows good hands and ball security. Not in space? Not a problem for him! He possesses the skills to consistently make contested catches. Regardless of the kickoff rules, expect Bolden to be utilized in the return game by the Birmingham Stallions.
While his NFL chance did not work out the first time, he will function as a security blanket for the starting quarterback. The day 1 starter will likely be Adrian Martinez. Whether over the middle of the field, or a quick pass to the outside, he will have a key offensive piece for the upcoming season with the Birmingham Stallions.
