Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods carded a 10-over par 82 on Saturday in the third round at Augusta National. This was his worst score in 99 career Masters rounds. The worst Masters round for Woods before Saturday was back-to-back 78s in 2022. The 2022 Masters was Woods first tournament back after being involved in a terrible car accident in January of 2021. This is just the fifth round in which Woods has shot in the 80s as a pro. The last one came in 2015.
A disastrous four-hole stretch turned hope into downright dejection for the global superstar. Woods shot six over on the final four holes of the front nine to go out in 42. The back nine was not much better for him as he shot a 4-over 40. Woods was optimistic heading into the weekend, but it was not meant to be.
“I have a chance going into the weekend. I’m here. I have a chance to win the golf tournament. … I’m only eight back as of right now. I don’t think anyone is going to run off and hide.”
Will Tiger Woods be able to rebound in the final round of the 2024 Masters?
Tiger Woods Expectations Heading Into Sunday
Woods entered the weekend seven strokes back of the leaders, and at the time of publication is 18 back of the pace with a score of +12. Golf fans looking for Woods to have a magical weekend this year will be left sorely disappointed. He will look to shoot a solid round tomorrow and finish 72 holes for only the fourth time in the last three years.
One of the best golfers of all time, an ailing body has left Tiger Woods a shell of what he once was.
