It’s been rare to say the Charlotte Hornets have something good going for them.
They have had some bright moments, and they do appear to have a couple of bright spots, but overall, this is not a franchise with a lot of hope. Some have even speculated that they may never be able to dig themselves out of the hole that they seem to always be in. But after Friday’s performance, particularly in the first half, reasonable room for optimism appears to have officially arrived in North Carolina.
But do you see this more as a one-off, or could this be a long-term trend?
Charlotte Hornets Rookie Impresses
Brandon Miller pulled off something quite spectacular for the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night against the Magic. At the half, Miller had scored 26 points. That itself could be enough to be impressed by. However, he did so on 10 of 10 shooting from the field. Moreover, he was 100% shooting from inside the arc, 100% shooting from three-point range, and 100% shooting from the free-throw line.
He also had four rebounds and an assist during that time. There are times when you just have it going as a player. It doesn’t seem to matter what the other team does; the hoop is just that much bigger when you are in the zone. But for a franchise that is hoping to turn the corner, nights like tonight can only help.
Miller Season With The Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets frontcourt player is having a good rookie season. Some may wish that he was considered a better rookie of the year candidate. However, set that aside for the moment; this is an unusual year, and any other year he would likely have a very strong case.
Regardless, he’s still averaging 17.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. But most importantly, he looks like he fits, and he is someone who is continuing to develop and grow within the Hornet system. Considering he’s just a rookie, this appears to be his floor at the moment.
Looking Ahead With The Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets did not quite have the year that they were hoping for. But their record makes it look worse than what this roster is. The team continues to wait for Lamelo Ball to get back. And even if that isn’t the case, their recent acquisitions and young players appear to be improving; this could be a nucleus that the team builds around.
Either way, Miller is and will remain part of the long-term plans of this franchise. Furthermore, as soon as they learn how to play a little more consistently and avoid dropping some of the games in which they’ve had leads late, they should be more than fine moving forward. As they go on to defeat the Magic 124 to 115, the Charlotte Hornets have at least two players that they know they can build around.
