The Michigan Wolverines are coming off a national championship season. However, this team will look very different in 2024. A large number of players have entered the NFL Draft, and Sherrone Moore is now the head coach after Jim Harbaugh left for the Los Angeles Chargers. There were many questions about the team, especially on defense, but sources are indicating they might be getting a huge boost. Star safety Quinten Johnson is reportedly withdrawing from the NFL Draft and returning to school in 2024.

Nothing is official yet, but all signs point to Quinten Johnson returning to the Michigan Wolverines. He just signed an NIL deal with Randy Wise Automotive, a move the company posted about on social media. This company has many NIL deals with Michigan players, including Mason Graham, Derrick Moore, and Colston Loveland. It would be surprising to see Johnson sign a NIL deal and then jump to the NFL.
More than likely, he saw the safety rotation open up after some key transfers. Junior Keon Sabb was the only real piece the Michigan Wolverines lost in the 30-day transfer portal window. It freed up space in the safety room. As a part of a rotation, Johnson had 22 tackles, one interception, five pass breakups, and a forced fumble. If he were to get more playing time, he might be able to become one of the best safeties in college football.
Michigan Wolverines 2024 Outlook
Don’t count the Michigan Wolverines out in 2024. While they shouldn’t be the favorites in the Big Ten, they aren’t going to be a walk in the park. Their schedule is tough, which is part of the reason many are dubious about their chances in 2024. However, they have a couple of things going for them. The first is the expanded College Football Playoff. They could lose two games and still get an at-large bid.
The second is that they still have many high-quality players. Donovan Edwards is back. Sherrone Moore has proven he can build an elite offensive line. Quinten Johnson wouldn’t be the only defensive piece back in 2024. Rod Moore, Derrick Moore, and Mason Graham are all back as well. The Michigan Wolverines accomplished their goal: winning a national championship. The pressure is off and everything from here on out is gravy.
