The Michigan Wolverines have been highly successful in recent years. Most notably with their football program. Former Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh has departed for the NFL becoming the head coach of the LA Chargers. Now that the College Football season is over, it is time for former college players to pursue their dream of playing professionally. On Monday, Adam Schefter reported that the Michigan Wolverines set the record for the most players being sent to the NFL Combine (18) in 2024.
Michigan Wolverines Set Record For Players Sent to The NFL Combine In 2024
The Wolverines will have 18 players sent to the NFL Combine this offseason. This is the most by any college or university in the NCAA. The previous record held was by the LSU Tigers in 2020. With this being said, the Michigan Wolverines looked to have lost a lot of pieces after winning the CFP National Championship last season (2023).
Now, Ann Arbor will have a new head football coach in Sherrone Moore. He was the former offensive coordinator when Jim Harbaugh was the head man at Michigan. In recent months, Moore has made his own coaching hires and changes heading into the new season of 2024.
Michigan Wolverines New Head Coach Hires Staff
Michigan has made a new hire to lead its football team. Sherrone Moore acted as the interim head coach for six games during 2023. This was a result of Jim Harbaugh serving a suspension. Some were self-imposed, and the others were not. Moore has hired a new defensive coordinator to replace previous NFL experience that helped them be the best college football team in 2023. On the offensive side of the ball for the Michigan Wolverines, Moore has promoted the former quarterbacks coach, Kirk Campbell to be the new offensive coordinator.
The Wolverines only gave up 24 or more points to three different teams in 2023. These teams included Maryland, Ohio State, and Alabama in the Rose Bowl Game. Michigan was able to capture their third straight Big Ten Title, and their first National Championship since 1997.
NFL Combine 2024
Under former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, he led the Wolverines to a perfect season with a record of (15-0). The bulk of the offensive production came from J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum. Former wideout Roman Wilson had a spectacular senior year, and came up clutch in the closing minutes against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
On the defensive side, Michigan lost players such as Kris Jenkins, Mike Barrett, and Mike Sanristil just to name a few. But, with 18 players going to the NFL Combine it means that the team will have to replace a bunch of key players under the new coaching staff in Ann Arbor. The former players were all developed and highly skilled athletes who deserve the opportunity to try out. Much like any other collegiate program, there will be scouts watching every player that will be invited to the combine.
The Michigan Wolverines set the bar high for each student athlete, and the reward will be even much greater for those that get their chance at the next level to show what they have.
