The Los Angeles Chargers are going with a proven head coach. He is most recently coming off his national championship with the Michigan Wolverines. However, for multiple reasons, he will be reentering the NFL.
Los Angeles Chargers Looking To Give Justin Herbert The Best Opportunity
They needed to move in a different direction. Desperately! Many already consider the organization to have wasted prime years of their quarterback’s shelf life! Brandon Staley tried to help Herbrt in his development. But many head-scratching decisions and game management errors led to the parting of ways.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Chargers will now be moving forward with Jim Harbaugh. This move comes as an excellent opportunity for both parties. Harbaugh is missing a title at the professional level. Also, the Chargers are in a great position to compete in the AFC!
Despite how the past few seasons have gone, many will expect an improved product on the field under the new head coach. Most notably, this team needs someone buttoned up, who can instantly win over the locker room. With Harbaugh, a lot of the plaguing issues will go away.
However, the AFC West remains one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL. Still, with him in charge, the odds start to tilt more in their favor. While winning the division is not the expectation, making it into the playoffs will remain a non-negotiable.
Los Angeles Chargers Priority
The bottom line is that Staley had lost the belief of his players. Particularly on the defensive side of the ball which was supposed to be his strong point. Even though collapses and leads will vanish, how they repeatedly happened became a hallmark of his team.
Under Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers have someone who owns every room he walks into. And strictly in a football sense, he will take ownership of any shortcomings. He has a history of getting the best out of his players and can create a united mentality within every team that he has been a part of.
Not only is he an offensive mind, with the perspective of a former quarterback, but in terms of personality, he is the opposite of what Staley was in charge of the Los Angeles Chargers. They have instantly become better with his hiring.
Los Angeles Chargers Coach Escaping A Sinking Ship?
You can’t call the next point an elephant in the room. It’s well-known how he left Michigan. Speaking of ownership, many are correctly saying that his leaving the Wolverines is fleeing further justice for the ongoing cheating allegations under his watch.
One of the reported holdups was his seeking assurances that the NFL would not hold any suspension or penalties against him from college. In a vacuum, it looks great. Harbaugh was able to leave on top and pursue his NFL goals. But he is undoubtedly leaving his Alma Mater in a precarious situation. Likely, any further sanctions will now be eased on the program. But still. Many would have liked to have seen him stick out any potential punishment.
Until then, a new game has to be circled on any NFL fan’s calendar! The Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers will face off next year at SoFi Stadium. The matchup will be a home game for the new head coach and will prove a great opportunity to see if coaching in the NFL is like riding a bike for the younger Harbaugh brother.
