The Los Angeles Chargers first-round pick from last season, wide receiver Quentin Johnston, had a rookie season to forget. Coming out of TCU, the young wide out had a golden opportunity when Mike Williams went out with a season-ending injury. He did not take advantage. Drops and missed opportunities were the story of the season, leading many to call this pick a bust. However, new offensive coordinator Joe Hortiz sees big things for Johnston in 2024.
Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston
Quentin Johnston only had 38 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns for the Los Angeles Chargers. However, it wasn’t just the lack of production but the missed opportunities. In a game against the Green Bay Packers, Johnston had a crucial drop that would have likely sealed the victory. Hortiz isn’t worried about the young receiver.
“But he flashed some really impressive traits and the good thing is when you’re looking at your roster, you’re looking at it all the time, you’re watching the film all the time. Every time you put on the tape, you see the talent and I expect him to make the jump. I know we have the right coaches to help him make the jump. I feel good about the guys that are here.”
Horitz expects Quentin Johnston to make a jump in year two. He will definitely be counted on more in 2024 for the Los Angeles Chargers.
New Look Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers will look very different in 2024. Jim Harbaugh will be leading this team from the sidelines. Quentin Johnston is getting so much attention in the offseason because the team moved on from Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Currently, he is the number one receiver on the depth chart. Austin Ekeler also left in free agency leaving Justin Herbert as the only remnant of the main offensive players from 2023.
The Los Angeles Chargers are likely in a transition year. The good news is they have their franchise quarterback. With a different voice in the locker room and some roster changes, the hope is this team can be back to competing in no time.
