The Dallas Cowboys will have some big decisions on player contracts coming soon. One of those contracts is for Dak Prescott. He is entering the final year of his deal, and all indications are that the team will not extend him before the season. It has led to massive speculation about what the team will do in the position beyond 2024. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys are a sleeper team for drafting a quarterback.
Dallas Cowboys To Draft A Quarterback?
During an NFL Live segment, Schefter mentioned that Dallas could draft a quarterback sooner than people think.
“What are they going to do at quarterback if they lose Dak? That’s interesting. And that’s why I think the Cowboys might be a sleeper team in the quarterback market during the draft. Because at some point in time, they might have to draft a quarterback. Higher than you think, because Dak is going into the last year of the contract, and it might be time to get someone in there to start grooming him.”
If the plan for the Dallas Cowboys is not to extend Prescott, they have to start thinking about the future now. Fans will be very upset if they move on from Dak and have no real plan to replace him. Who could the Cowboys target?
Which Quarterback Could The Dallas Cowboys Target?
Unless the team mortgages the future, they will likely not get a chance at any of the top four at the position. Even players like Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix could be gone by the time the Cowboys are on the clock. However, this shouldn’t phase the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott was a fourth-round pick himself. Spencer Rattler is an interesting name to watch, as he was once considered a top prospect in Oklahoma.
If the team wanted more of a veteran type, Michael Pratt out of Tulane would be a good option. Jordan Travis is looming as well, and he could continue to recover from injury while learning the playbook. It’s also easy to forget that Trey Lance is on this roster and could make the leap. The Dallas Cowboys have options, but they are a team to watch during the NFL Draft.
