Mark Nicholas Steps Down as Chair of Southern Brave

Mark Nicholas has vacated his office as the head of the board of directors of the Southern Brave. This decision came at a time when he was about to take over the position of chairperson of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). London Spirit has recently been formed, and it has been envisaged that the MCC, who owns Lords, maybe the majority owner of the new team at some point shortly.

Mark Nicholas, who had been a Hampshire captain before joining the club, was on great terms with the ex-chairman, Rod Bransgrove. An MCC spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo: “Yes, it is true that Mark is no longer the chair of Southern Brave. But we can also state that he does not intend to be part of the London Spirit board now. ”

Mark Nicholas, who has been elected as the president of MCC in England, will become chair in October. He has recently been constantly engaging MCC members regarding future modifications to the ownership structure of Hundred Teams. This is likely to lead to the ECB giving away more than half of the franchises’ ownership stakes to hosts, where MCC may well end up as the majority owner of the London Spirit.

Interest in the ownership of spirits in London

Since the end of last year, MCC has considered the concept of owning a stake in London Spirit with the teams. Chris Rogers, currently the club’s treasurer, is head of one of these working groups, namely the ‘Hundred working group’, which aims to study this possibility. Mark Nicholas has expressed his desire to have MCC as the majority owner, insisting that this would create unity at the club to support one team.

To this extent, London Spirit is anticipated to be the most dominant team when the ECB throws the bids this year. The benefits MCC can obtain might include the financial endowment for the MCC foundation, investing in the club’s museum, and enhancing.
