The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into another offseason as the Super Bowl champs. This offseason, the team has signed their current players to big deals while also filling in the margins on their roster. They brought in some wide receiver help with Marquise Brown and added some other fringe pieces to fill in gaps. The Chiefs made another move, which shocked many when it was announced. Former second-overall pick Carson Wentz has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes has a new backup quarterback. While Chad Henne held the role for years for the Kansas City Chiefs, the team needs a solid backup behind the MVP quarterback. Carson Wentz played five years for the Eagles, getting a massive extension from the team. This didn’t stop them from trading him away to the Colts, where he lasted one season.
He spent a year in Washington before he was benched, and then last year, Wentz spent time with the Rams. The former top pick started two games, going 17-24 for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He added 56 yards on the ground as well. The Kansas City Chiefs get a backup quarterback with lots of experience who can come in and run an offense effectively.
Good Move By The Kansas City Chiefs?
Overall, this is a good move by the Kansas City Chiefs. The hope is he never sees the field. This isn’t a dig against Carson Wentz. There isn’t a quarterback in the league many would prefer over Patrick Mahomes. However, this gives the team a solid veteran presence in the quarterback room. In the event he does need to come in, the team knows what they are getting. Caron Wentz could easily come in for a spot start and win a game or two.
These are the types of moves that we don’t always see the impact of on the field. Quarterbacks have often talked about how having a veteran backup on the headset is invaluable. The Kansas City Chiefs are going for a third straight Super Bowl and are filling out their roster with a lot of talent.
