Washington Commanders-Cornerback Jonathan Jones Agree On 1-Year Deal

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders and Cornerback Jonathan Jones came to terms on a 1-year deal on Wednesday evening. Jones had a middling season in 2024 with the New England Patriots. He had 58 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.

Jones is coming over to the Commanders following spending the entirety of his nine-year career in New England. He won two Super Bowls with the team during the Brady-Belichick regime. Jones has 436 career tackles, 11 forced fumbles, and 11 interceptions. How will he play with the Washington Commanders in 2025?

Washington Commanders Offseason Outlook

Washington has not rested on its laurels after making a surprise trip to the NFC Championship Game. They made a few marquee trades this offseason that sent Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel and Offensive Lineman Laremy Tunsil to town.

Washington has worked hard as well to improve its defense. Jones is a great example of that. They signed Defensive Lineman Javon Kinlaw and Safety Will Harris. They also re-signed star Linebacker Bobby Wagner. The Jones signing had great timing for the team as Cornerback Benjamin St-Juste departed in free agency soon after the Commanders signed Jones.

Final Thoughts

Jones and the rest of Washington’s moves this offseason prove the team believes its time to win a Super Bowl is now. With Quarterback Jayden Daniels on a rookie contract, the Washington Commanders have the flexibility to surround its young quarterback with veteran talent.
