Tonight, the Philadelphia 76ers (44-35) went up against the San Antonio Spurs (19-59) in what ended up being a double-overtime thriller.
The 76ers and Spurs went back and forth throughout the whole game, fighting for the win. For San Antonio, it was the rookie phenomenon Victor Wembanyama, who led the charge with 33 points and 18 rebounds. For Philadelphia, it was their young star, Tyrese Maxey, taking over with a career-high 52 points.
This game was truly amazing, and both teams gave it their all, but in the end, it was the 76ers who came out on top.
Tyrese Maxey Carries Team to Victory
Tonight, Tyrese Maxey proved that he could lead this Philadelphia 76ers team. They were without All-Star Joel Embiid which has proven to make games difficult for them. For a majority of the season, it seemed like without Embiid the 76ers had no shot. However, Maxey proved that theory wrong against San Antonio.
Not only did he get a career-high tonight, but also it is the most points scored by a 76er on the road since Allen Iverson did it in 2005. Furthermore, Maxey did it in a high-pressure game that went to double overtime. He was truly unstoppable.
Philadelphia 76ers Guard’s Breakout Season?
Tyrese Maxey has always been destined to be great. The league is aware that he is a very solid player, and any roster would be lucky to have him on their team. However, this season, he is playing with a different energy. Viewers can see that Maxey is hungry and wants to push his team to the playoffs.
This season Maxey is averaging 25.5 points per game, 3.7 assists per game, and 6.3 rebounds per game. He sits in 12th for points per game and 17th for assists per game. Every single stat is up from what they were last season and the seasons before. He is showing immense growth and Maxey’s confidence seems to be through the roof.
Can Philadelphia 76ers Stars Propell Them to Playoffs?
Right now, the Philadelphia 76ers are sitting in seventh place. This game caused them to jump over the Miami Heat, which lost tonight. Now, they are just one game behind the Indiana Pacers. They have a chance to avoid the play-in and snag a playoff spot.
With Joel Embiid finally getting minutes again and Maxey playing incredible basketball, can they get the Philadelphia 76ers to the finish line? There are three games left in the season. For Philadelphia, each one will be important if they want to get the sixth-place spot.
