The Memphis Showboats have the potential to make the biggest acquisition in UFL history! Granted it’s a new league. But still! The prospect of adding a household name would increase ratings!
Memphis Showboats Making Noise On Social Media
Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson shared on the Nightcap Show that he wants to play in the UFL. His friend Shannon Sharpe was as encouraging as possible. But the 46-year-old made it clear how much he wants to take the field again. Sharpe brought up that taking his would be the issue. Considering how long it has been since he last played, this would be a concern.
However, according to himself (quite the source) he’s in shape. Yet, this brought Sharpe to correctly point out that virtually everything has a shape! Ochocinco then corrected his statement. He has maintained his conditioning levels and feels he still has the burst needed to burn secondary coverages.
Ochocinco wants to play and has wanted to play often since retiring. While his best playing days are behind him, athletes often say that they could play in today’s league and produce at a high level. If given a chance this could provide an opportunity to see how true this statement is!
Memphis Showboats Coach Inclined To See!
John DeFilippo is willing to take Ochocinco up on his willingness to play! The coach took to social media to let him know they are interested and want him to contact them ASAP!
Who knows how this would work or if it even could work? But this would be one of the best ways for the UFL to draw more eyeballs to the league. At this point, the UFL is largely seen as a chance for players and coaches to prove themselves. However, the larger goal remains to get back to the NFL ranks. But, something like this would give it a chance for the league to separate itself.
Of course, Ochocinco will not be signing with an NFL team anytime soon. But could it be likened to European soccer players coming to the American MLS after their best playing days are behind them?
This would be a disservice to the UFL long-term. The ability to organically grow and expand the fanbase is what is so exciting about this league. Making the UFL a second stint for aging players will take away from others trying to prove themselves. That is to say, the merged league cannot rely on former stars for viewership long-term. But for now, it would be fun to watch someone like Terrell Owens or Ochocinco go up against emerging talent!
Memphis Showboats Possibly Signee’s Past In The NFL
At his best, Ochocinco was one of the best! Both on the field and on camera! He is most known for his Cincinnati Bengals days. Many have insisted that he belongs in Canton. They say he should be enshrined in the Hall Of Fame with some of the other receiving greats.
Without a doubt, he belongs in that discussion! Ultimately, he will likely get in. He currently sits at 40th at just over 11,000 receiving yards. Despite only playing 11 seasons. But it’s likely years from now that he will be remembered for the totality of what he brought to the game.
Until then what he said next is more likely going to be his next step. When Sharpe brought up flag football, Ochocinco mentioned coaching. While his playing days are reluctantly behind him, it seems coaching current wideouts would be the best avenue for him to remain directly involved in the game! There is no better name brand than Memphis Showboats for him to join!
