How’d you like to work for four days and get a check for $3.6 million? OK, so not just anyone has a shot at a paycheck like that. You have to be one of the 50 best golfers playing at this week’s Masters. That’s what the winner will take home on Sunday. That is a 25% bump from just two years ago when first-time winner Scottie Scheffler won a green jacket and $2.7 million.
Masters Total Prize Money Goes Up
The total purse is going up to $20 million, a $2 million jump from 2023. The Masters may be the most prestigious tournament, but it is not the biggest payout for pro golfers. The Players Championship hands out $25 million. Maybe if you know Scheffler you’ll let him pick up the check next time, he won the tournament and $4.5 million earlier this season.
To put that number in perspective, every player in the top 50 finishers gets at least $50,000. The Green Jacket is what everyone wants, but just making the cut is pretty nice. More perspective: every event on the LIV Tour pays out $4 million to the winner, and that is why so many players were drawn to Saudi Arabia. Here are the payouts for the top five finishers at the Masters:
1 | $3,600,000 |
2 | $2,160,000 |
3 | $1,356,000 |
4 | $960,000 |
5 | $800,000 |
Golf Fans Get A Bonus In This Year’s Tournament
For the first time in many years, you’ll be able to see the Masters with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Vijay Singh all on the course for the weekend. All three are past green jacket winners. Singh just turned 61 and Tiger is playing on a surgically repaired body. Phil Mickelson calls Augusta National a “spiritual” place for those who love Golf.
