I’m a career journalist. I spent 12+ years at CNN as a writer and producer. My sports: NHL, MLB, NFL. My goal: unique content. My teams are the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills (yes I’m a masochist) and the Los Angeles Dodgers. I have been a Dodgers fan since i was old enough to think. I have gone through decades of despair with all three franchises.

Coming into game six, Connor McDavid had only one point in the last three games. That changed on Saturday night in game 6. McDavid had three points as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 to force a game seven in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. “I was just hoping to be part of a win. We had all 20 guys going,” McDavid said. “We’re looking forward to it [game 7]. We’re both playing really good hockey right now, in enemy territory; it’s a great chance for our guys to come together and go in there and get it done.”…

The NHL suspended Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy for one game for his cross-check to Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid’s face. It happened during a scrum at the end of game three Sunday night in the Western Conference Semi-Finals in Edmonton. The NHL Department of Player Safety said, “Soucy chooses to raise his stick to an unacceptably high level and delivers a two-handed blow which lands directly to his opponent’s head.” Nikita Zadorov was fined $5,000 for the cross-check he delivered to Connor McDavid from behind during the incident. After the game, McDavid said, “It’s a tough game. They’ve got…

Los Angeles Dodgers Designated Hitter Shohei Ohtani was held out of the lineup on Sunday due to what the Dodgers call “lower back tightness.” Ohtani complained about his back in the game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts said it happened sometime in the seventh inning, and he doesn’t believe the injury is serious. “Right now, it’s [the injury] minimal, precautionary for sure,” Roberts said. “His back tightened up, so it was just one of those things that I got word before his fourth at-bat…so being up 5-0, we didn’t want to push it.”…

There is no doubt that Jerry Rice is the greatest wide receiver in the history of the National Football League and maybe its greatest player ever. No one has more receiving yards, touchdowns, or receptions than Rice. So when he says he’s unhappy about something in the game, we all take notice. Jerry Rice’s son, Brenden, was taken in the seventh round of this year’s NFL draft in Detroit last month by the Los Angeles Chargers. Brenden said it was “very frustrating” to wait so long, but his father was a bit more animated. “My dad was hot,” Rice laughed…

Overtime was needed Friday night to get a winner in game two of the Western Conference Semi-Finals (or, as they’re calling it in the great white north, the Canadian Championship). Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard threw a puck toward the net, and it hit Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ian Cole’s stick and went in to give the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 victory. “The goalie played good, I just tried to get it to the net,” Bouchard said, “luckily it was their guy that tipped it.” The assists went to Connor McDavid, who had a goal and three assists, and Leon Draisaitl,…

The Vancouver Canucks scored only 13 goals in six games in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Head coach Rick Tocchet said 13 probably wouldn’t get it done against Edmonton. He was right. The Canucks scored three straight goals in the third period to beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in game one of the Western Conference Semi-Finals. The game-winner came from Conor Garland as he beat Stuart Skinner through the five-hole with six minutes left in the third. “I don’t have the strongest shot. The Los Angeles Dodgers are hot—I mean white hot. I guess that’s what happens when you spend $1 billion on free agents in the offseason. The team has won six in a row and 13 out of its last 15 games. In those 15 games, the Dodgers have outscored their opponents 107-21 and hit 27 home runs. The Dodgers face the Miami Marlins again tonight and are going for their second straight series sweep. This start shouldn’t surprise anyone. Those free-agent signings—Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto—are both having spectacular springs. Yamamoto went a full eight innings on Tuesday night against…
