Los Angeles Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford has agreed to a restructured deal to keep him with the team going forward. The exact terms of the deal have not been announced at the time of publication. Stafford and the Los Angeles agreeing to a contract did not look like a done deal just a few days ago.
The franchise had reportedly given Stafford and his representation the flexibility to seek a trade this offseason. Stafford had been linked to the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants for much of the past month. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback reportedly met with Raiders Minority Owner Tom Brady in Montana a few days ago. Stafford returning to the Rams made the most sense for both sides. Los Angeles Rams had the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on the ropes but were unable to finish the job. Stafford’s receiving corps will look different next season. Los Angeles will reportedly look to trade Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp this offseason.
Stafford struggled to begin the 2024-25 regular season but came on strong over the second half. He also was great during the NFL Playoffs. He had 533 passing yards and 4 passing touchdowns over LA’s two postseason games. Even though he just turned 37, Stafford is still one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the National Football League. Today’s news means the star quarterback will end his illustrious with another few shots at winning a championship.
Final Thoughts
Stafford put his pride aside and took less money to stay with the Los Angeles Rams. He has a Super Bowl-ready roster and Head Coach Sean McVay is one of the league’s best. Stafford ending his career with a rebuilding Raiders or Giants team never made sense. He will return to a team that wants him as their quarterback and one that has a tremendous roster.
