The DC Defenders are looking to impress in the inaugural UFL. After an impressive 2023 XFL season, the team is hoping that the most recent roster acquisition will prove to be the difference.
DC Defenders Top Defensive Player
Even though their team goals came up just short, despite this, the DC Defenders show no signs of slowing down. First reported by James Larsen on social media, on the platform currently known as X, it was announced that Robert Nkemdiche would be joining the capital team of the newly realigned league.
In addition to coming off of a bitter 37-21 title game defeat, many are expecting this team to repeat as contenders. This move undoubtedly helps. If Jordan Ta’Amu can return this team is in a prime position. However, with Jalan McClendon, this team looks strong still.
Nkemdiche is a 29-year-old who will be looking to turn around narratives about him.
DC Defenders Nkemdiche NFL Experience
Nkemdiche went off the board with the 29th pick in the 2016 draft. He struggled with injuries for a large part of his Arizona Cardinals tenure. But that is not what is most notable. Despite his talent and initial high praise, there were loud critics within the Cardinals organization.
Now former GM Steve Keim had this to say about Nkemdiche, despite the fact his decision drafted the talented prospect out of Ole Miss.
We thought (he) was a top-ten talent and there were some concerns and questions coming out. At the end of the day, this guy just didn’t love football enough, in my opinion.
This can be a hard reputation to overcome. Still, considering the history of Keim, and many debating his level of success, his words remain one person’s opinion. Regardless, they still appear to be the type of words he is looking to persevere through.
One of his stops includes playing for the Seattle Seahawks, it is here that we can listen to his side of the story.
This is what I love doing. Just being back on the field doing what I love doing, it was it was everything. It meant everything to me.
This statement is in direct contrast to what Keim shared about the player as a Cardinal. Even though he may have been perceived as unwilling, the exact extent of his injury and ability to play remains unknown. However, it seems this fact did not give him to ability to showcase his abilities. Additionally, his talent is why an organization drafted him so high in the first place. And it will continue to be why others take a chance on him.
He is a dangerous man on the field when healthy.
DC Defenders 2024
Our very own sorcerermatt broke down the DC Defenders makeup. But there are others on this team to note. Davin Bellamy is returning. Last year he managed 18 total tackles and 5.5 sacks. Boogie Roberts comes from the Pittsburgh Maulers. He garnered a respectable 28 total tackles and 3 sacks.
Despite the defensive line being a strength, the DC Defenders are continuing to build on it. Whether in the NFL or UFL, getting to the quarterback remains paramount.
Looking to contribute, injuries notwithstanding, Nkemdiche will make an immediate impact. This latest move shows that the DC Defenders are attacking this season, despite how their season ended. This is a team to watch for!
