Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is known for having hilarious quotes. The three-time Super Bowl-winning head coach is one of the most fun personalities in the NFL. His latest has to do with a strange piece of evaluation for the NFL Draft. The Athletic’s Josh Kendall wrote a piece about how teams evaluate one specific part of a player’s body: the butt.

The piece is a very fun read. There is one gem of a quote from former punter Dustin Colquitt talking about an exit interview he had with Andy Reid.
“He’d sit down with me and be like, ‘You went to the Pro Bowl, and we don’t have much to say to you. But don’t lose your butt. Punters have to have big butts. As soon as you start to look like you’re going downhill from a physique standpoint, you’re out of here. Keep that a** going.'”
This is an absolutely fantastic quote from Andy Reid. It fits his personality well. It is an interesting window into how exit interviews go for players at the end of the season. For a punter specifically, it makes sense that a strong base is necessary. Having a strong leg is essential for a punter.
Andy Reid: Not The Only One
The article dives into many other general managers who evaluate the rear ends of players. The punter isn’t the only position that needs a strong base. Offensive and defensive linemen have to keep their feet under them. Basic physics tells us that the larger the mass, the harder it is to move (at least, I think. It’s been a while since high school physics).
Andy Reid is going for Super Bowl number four. Whenever he retires, he will be remembered for his coaching on the field and for his personality.
